OK my centrally locked boot has been non-centrally locked for too long. Usual problem - the maniac motor just ragged a chunk off the flimsy metal on the end of the lock barrel which retains the end of the motor rod.

Question is - whats the best way to bodge it? At the moment the best idea I've come up with is to araldite a repair washer onto one side and use the hole in that to retain the end of the motor rod, but I'm not sure if even a liberal portion of araldite will restrain that lunatic motor!

Anyone else got a good suggestion/something they've done to solve this problem?

Cheers

but i know what you are on about ,i tried to make a little ring that will stick on the existing broken one but the motor ferked it immediately and i did not bother after

Yeah I spotted that GSF one - is it the whole barrel assembly or just the back bit? I don't especially want another key just for the boot, although I guess I wouldn't be using it much if the central locking worked! Does the GSF one have better design or is the central locking hole just as flimsy as the Ren originals?

new barrel and key from GSF.

Anyway the main problem is the solenoid way overshoots thats why the bit snaps.

I thought about flexy mounting it and even shortenign the rod so the solenoid doesn't use its full range but that doesn't work.

So the best thign to do is go to the scrappy and get a lock barrel from another 19, not all the barrels have the bit that breaks though. But most do. Get the barrel then remove the e clip remove the bit then swap it over to your existing barrel and it'll work.

Repairs don't last. However if you made a totally new bit and extended the arm it would work and the extra length on it woudl mena its not so violent as the travel is taken up.

i have been messing with that for a while its only a broken ring ,it can probably be welded or smth but it eventually snaps ,thinking about it i found it the best way is to leave it as it is and lock and unlock the boot manually when needed . imagine it breaking when you unlock it with the remote and when you lock it again(thinking its locked but its not) wake up in the morning and see your car is broken into from the boot .
so leave it as it is imo, this also happens to be the cheapest option .

lets be honest the car is extremly easy to break into unless your a member of the police force, so anyone daft enough to gain entry through the boots a pillock.

lol I had heard they are easy to break into - someone has tried it before on my car before I owned it, but I think they were a complete muppet, as the front door locks are both fooked thanks to them - one of them has come off the rod inside the door, so it just flops in and out of the hole in the door and isn't attached to anything, and on the other side some twonk stuck a flat bladed driver into it and bent it all outta shape. I saw a police proggie where they broke into a valver that was being used as a fake police car (yeah right - like the police would have a valver these days!) by some crims, and they did it in about five seconds without touching the lock (used one of those thin metal rod things to pop the lock).

It's only mildly annoying unless I'm using the boot often, which I don't usually do, so I will probably try something on it one day. I got a spare lock from ebay but it had the loop snapped off too doh! At least I can practice on it Smile

BTW how does one get the boot lock out of the boot lid (its a phase 1 if that makes any diff)?

Yup, I saw that one Alex, blue mint looking Chammy that got crushed in the end. The copper couldn't break in to it, but the recovery guy did it in about 10 seconds.

It got crushed Surprised I didn't see that bit Crying or Very sad What a tragedy! I've never understood why stuff the police confiscate is always trashed in this country. Don't they hold police auctions in the US to sell of the stuff they recover from criminals? The police force could probably fund itself by reselling confiscated imported booze and fags alone!

I can't remember what that police guy was doing - I think he was trying to get at the lock through the space between the window and the outer door skin, and then when the recovery guy turned up he just stuck the thingy down the side of the door and opened it straight away Laughing
