okey now fist cock up with the new fiesta .its a g reg 1,1 L ,my friend says she tried to work the car earlier today but the battery seems to be drained ,no lights nothing was coming on .like every silly female would do ,she pumped the gas a few times as well as the car did not start up.i went there after half an hour and tried to start up ,no luck no battery.
put the extensions and tried to jump start from my cars battery ,the lights on the panel and everything comes up on the fiesta but it does not start up . the belt (dont know the proper name) is turning to turn the engine over but nothing else happens . i noticed there is a fair amount of oil on the belt and i reckon that makes the belt slip .
so what can be the problem ? did she clog the cylinders with too much fuel ? is it the belt ? is it the battery ? or what can i do to find out whats going on ?
any help will be much appreciated

If the alt belt is turning then its not the starter motor.

Make sure choke is off and keep trying to start it in short bursts with no gas

ys but they are very common to die and just crank over to slow to start it.

As for the oil just get a new one. About 3 quid.

But if it is crankign quick enough to start then try to start it with no choke, if it stutters a few times then pump the pedal 3 times then try and start it, should get going.

After that see if its sparking or not.

but like I said plenty of them turn over just to slowly to try and start.

ok i just came back ,it worked .what i have done;
took the spark plugs out gave them a clean with a cloth and sand paper ,put them back in ,sprayed wd40 into plug leads .topped the battery water up . got rid of as much as oil i could off the aux drive belt as it was turning once and slippin turning again and slipping . after all i tried to jump start it ,connected the leads from my r19 to hers and waited for 10 mins tried to start the fiesta up ,taadaaa... no it did not work ,well pissed off as its dark and cold out there as well .

decided to kick start then it worked at once pulled the manual choke gave it a good drive around .it works now ,
a few things i forgot to mention earlier there is no air filter in the car and the carb is minging ,so i need to spray some shite cleaner into the carb later on and get a filter plus the good old plugs ,needs oil and filter change too .
and then got to find out where that ferkin oil is leaking from .
fiesta has a great heater it heats up in 5 mins and it makes the cabin a finnish sauna ,never had that joy in my renault but then thats probably the only good thing about fiestas .ferk em all .

chris ,budji thanks a lot to both of you .
by the way i forgot to ask how chris was getting on earlier in a hurry ,i am a ferking donkey .hope all is fine mate ?
cheers

sandpaper/wire brushes are not the best tools for this job mate.

best method really is to just replace them. But a toothbrush and carb cleaner is good.

Prob with wire brushes and sandpaper is that bits of wire or grains of sand get stuck between the porcelin and steel casing then drop out when the engines running or just melt and cause a constant missfire till it breaks properly.

some update on the fiesta
she has been told to buy a new battery buy some cowboy after the car did not start up again.and she did buy one even though i tried to tell her not to (bloody women)
the new battery did not solve the problem as at all ,now as far as i know the alternator is turning but still slipping as there is oil all over the aux drive belt
i suspect the alternator is playing up if it is not due to the belt ,how can i check the operation of the alternator to make sure its working or not .
woud there be any other reasons like a dodgy connection or earth that would make the battery loose power overnight ?

a new battery even with a buggered alt would allow the car to start and run.

I would have a look at the ignition side of things. Without being able to remember the age of the car it may still be points.

once the car is started by push and run for a while and stopped again ,it starts up easily chris.thats why i did not think it could be the ignition .what about some electric leak somewhere ?

its a mk3 fiesta HCS engine innit?

That has the DIS.

DIS pack is down the back of the enigne and gets covered in oil. But check for a spark 1st, remove an ht lead from the plug and stick a spare plug in it or a screwdriver then crank it over, there should be a spark jumping from the plug to the engine or the screwdrivers shank depending on what you used.

If theres no spark then the crank sensors duff, or the connections are duff.
