I have just done this, well box is out I'm tryign to find a clutch at the mo for project Y.
Anyway easiest way is to whip the engine out.
But you can move the box over or remove it totally.
It takes a while, if you have garage facilities then a couple of hours. |

I did mine by dropping the near side subframe and shifting the box over, took me a while, got stuck a few times but the people on here helped a lot. Get somone to help you with the box, its not fun trying to lift it and align it at the same time (heavy!) |

what gasket?
Box oil, clutch and thats it.
Sounds like your box oils low, you always get gear oil on the selector and it can look blue/purply.
Btw a clutch will not stop the box jumping out of gear, new oil might but you'll probably need a new box or a strip down which is dearer than another box. |

How much metal? When I swapped the oil on a perfectly good box it looked slightly silvery. |

the oil will have a silver appearence but if its like liquid silver maybe with gold streaks its fecked.
The easiest way is to remove the engine, if the bolts etc are all free then removing the engine and sticking it back in with a nerw clutch will take a few hours.
its also an ideal time to change the cambelt and the tensioners etc.
but you can do it with the engine in situ.
if I had an engine hoist to hand or could get my hands on one its the way I would go... |

get new gearstick bushes, they go at the box end.
Also get new down pipe to manifold nuts.
New box oil. |

if you find a scrapped megane then you can take the bracket off of that, but you will need to buy the release fork unless someone has whipped the engine and left the box. |
