i had a problem with my electric motor on drivers side ,the window was not shutting fully due to broken drive cable and i have been thinking i could be able to sort the problem out just by replacing the drive cable rather than buying a new leccy window motor assembly as the motor itself is working . i have been to a scrap yard and found a ph1 hatch with 5 doors (energy) it had wind up windows ,i told the scrap yard owner about the idea and he put me straight off saying its impossible to do that , the drive cable is different length etc and i did not bother until today and had been driving without my leccy window since .

earlier today i was talking to jonnyboy ,told him the story ,he said go for it try . went to the yard again took the wind up window cable for a tenner and came home .took both cables out ,they are exactly the same,sticked the new drive cable into my assembly and it works . to cut it short in 45 minutes the window was ready and fully servicable ,opens and shuts properly .problem sorted ,thanks to jonnyboy for encouraging me.
cheers mate

oh by the way ,i reckon you can get the drive cable from either sides (passenger or driver ) by the looks of it . is that right ?

i am quite sure it will fit from either sides ,the drive cable goes through the channel smoothly and you can make the plastic bit on top holding the window from its bottom (the hole) face any direction you want and it works .

one more question on this chris ,i know this is not the right section but dont want to waste space ;
electric switch that works the electric window . does the power cut of as the window hits the top or bottom end ????? or what is it?

i am asking this because i had to remove the black plastic that stops the drive cable in the end in order to stick the cable in to the metal rail and luckily the window stops as it hits the top without making any grinding noises etc. which feels quite right to me but just wanted to check and make sure nothing is wrong pls
cheers

good to have my window back but the biggest pleasure is being able to tell the fella in the scrap yard that it was not impossible and i can teach him how ,if he needs any help .
cheers jonnyboy
