ok it will not start (Megane 1998)
just got it from a salvage yard, they said it ran ok before i got my hands on it
work i did: removed n/s wing, bonnet, bumper and the metal around the rear of the light fitting.
point is i had a spare grey multi block in the fuse box ( next to the light fitting ) it only has about 5 v small wires going to it ??? should this be spare ???
next thing is the car is not even trying to start. so any ideas where the inersure (bump) switch is ? will check the fuel and - + coil tonight. but this multi block has me worried>>Alarm, Fog lights, etc
cheers for any help

by not trying to start what do you mean? Is the engine turning over? Or is it totally dead?
Inertia switch is beside the fusebox, will have a black cap, later models have a nice red cap. Push it.
Theres plenty of spare plugs etc in cars. |

Chris
turning over well. just sounds as there is no fuel and or no electrics.
there is no central locking/ no immobilizer / no alarm so throught it could be either the inertia switch or a wire off the coil or fuel pump
1.6 rn classic
was getting a bit late last night so a gave up |

it does have an immobiliser. They all did.
A 98 will have the transponder key, see the other megane immob post for more details and theres a few other posts regardign it.
Whats the red light ont he dash doing? Top central one when you try to start it?
Anyway inertia switch is behind the airbox and under to theright slightly of the coolant tank beside th efusebox. |

when the light is out the engine still does not start..
this is why i think it could be the inertia switch. by the sound of where the switch is. thats where i have a spare multi block. will get the spot lights out when i get home ..
check 1 red light deff goes out
2 .. check inertia switch is plugged in
3.. reset inertia switch
try start if not
4 .. check primary to coil then ht
try start if not
5 .. check fuel is been pumped
6 .. try start
7 ... come back on here
that sound about right |

inertia switch is in the loom itself, and it doesn't go through a multi block, well it goes to the ECU power wire which comes from a relay.
When the ignitions turned on do you hear the fuel pump buzz? |

she needs to press the top of the inertia switch to re-set it.
Its black and round, the tops about the size of a 2p piece, rubber top. |
