lo guys,
Was just thinking the other day as my MOT is up in Feb, and now i have the willy engine in the 19 and it is a 2L obviously, would this engine differ as far as emissions are concerned when testing, i.e would it fall into the same bracket, as 1.8 and if not how do i get round this if they think it's a 1.8?

doesn't matter if its a 600cc turbo'd hap 3 cyl or an 8 litre V8, has to meet the same requirements.
They will just test it as they see it. They won't know if its a 2 litre or not. |

I do have one other question which i brought up a while back, if the mileage on the car is now 50K after an engine change and the car is a mint N reg phase2/3 Exec, the value of the car has gone up, correct?.
And With this is mind if someone were to slam into the car and write it off and the insurance company come to value the car, they are going to see the mileage from the previous engine (140K) and value it on what they see on the clock not on the the fact that it has a 50K willy engne in it.
So on my previous point is it not worth changing the clock although i take your point about the car has done the mileage also, regardless of the engine, else if it gets written off i loose out big time no?
I have spoke to DVLA who consider changing the milege on the clock to be ok, with an update of the engine number and CC on the docs.

Iv got a brand new engine from Renault in ma 21t, £1000 pound for the engine and another small fortune to get it fitted, so far iv only done 12000 miles on her (not even run in ) but if i was to crash it tomorrow id still only get what the cars value is (not much) or if i was to sell her id not even make back what the engine and fitting cost when you do mods to your car it does not mean that the value goes up with it, its a hobby and thats it, infact iv read recently that some places will devalue your car price if they think its been modded, its only the engine thats been changed, the rest of the car has still done 140k, maybe a enthusiast will pay more, you could see if your insurance company would give you a "fixed agreement"
There's 21t's in the 21toc selling with new engine's in them from time to time but they still only really get what the car's worth, maybe a bit more, but not much.
When ma engine was replaced i had to leave the original mileage on the clock, but obviously record what milage the clock was at when the engine went in. |

its a 19....whatever u do to it it wont be worth as much as u wud like....
u wud have to tell them u have done an engine conversion for them to even begin to think about puttin the value up....
even with a brand spanking new engine direct from renault it would still be a 140K car
u cant just change the clocks as said before.
just forget about it and enjoy while it lasts if u ask me....its only a 19 |

the cars worth less with another engine in it.
Solid fact.
A standard car with its original engine is worth far more than a nedded up car with another engine in it. Even if its a bigger better engine.
Also mileage means nothing, if the cars under 5 years old then yes it matters. If you buy a car on mileage then your pretty stupid really. |

dunno.....a car with a better/more powerful engine will be more desirable to a certain market, therefore it would be worth more. However to a dealer/average Joe, it would decrease the value, yes |

excactly Stan. To a certain market the cars worht book/more, but to Mr average its worth less as now it will be seen as harder to sell on, unreliable and so on.
Noise is the best thing about these cars. |

he he whatever.
it's far from unreliable i can tell you, as it hasn't needed a topping up with water since i rebuilt the williams engine that went in, new gaskets whereever there is one, regrinding valves etc etc etc, is a very quick car, and considering the willy was only 50K then i'd say it has another good 4-5 years left in her, as the body work is also mint.
I'd also have to disagree and say with a 50K williams 2L engine in it, and body work being in mint condition, i.e NO SCRATCHES ANYWHERE, frankly whoever reckons it's worth less than is was before is TALKING TOTAL BOLLOX,
"market who thinks it's worth less."...who's that then?, how can a 50K engine be less reliable than a 140K engine?
And noise is certainly not the only thing about these cars...
get a grip will you for christs sake!!

sure, you know that, Chris knows that, I know that, everyone else here knows that. But the simple fact is that it's a buyer's market for these cars and if a buyer can use something to devalue the car then of course they will, even if in reality it's a positive. |

Well I'm sure Mr i don't know what i'm buying buyer won't be buying this one, i'd sooner sell it to my mum, than to someone who doesn't appreciate what's different about it, and considers it to be worth less because of that .
I'll probably own it until it dies anyway, mmmm turbo next me thinks.
