halfords/factors sell hydraulic jackoil. Use that. Its about the same as auto trans fluid as well.

Unscrew the bleed/release screw (in the left of the pic) and tilt it up. That'll drain it.

Fill it back up until the oilds about 5mm below the hole.

To bleed air, open the release and pump the handle a few times. See if that does it. If you stand on the jack body and slowly lift the cradle up it shoudl stayt where yo uleave it, if it drops down a bit theres air/faulty seals in it.

it is quite thin, Try cooking oil if you want mate, if you die though don't moan at me!

Old cars use the same oil in their dampers.

I don't liek those jacks, I have a jack same design from halfords, worked for maybe a month before it stopped holdign a load etc. Axle stands I got with it are fine though.

Its ok for engine mount changes etc but it will not lift a car.

Proper handle efforts are better. twist to release and so on.

has anybody seen chris h arond???? i got the hydrolic oil today tried to fill itas you said and still no joy . lifted the cradle up by hand and it drops down a bit as you said so there is air in the system and i cant get it out.

whats the screw on the right for?? i messed with it before and then realised it says "do not adjust" on it . there is a spring and a little pin under the screw that goes into the hole .

thats a valve, the screw on the right that is.

Lift the cradle right up then let it drop by releasing the left screw, try jackign it then.

if not then its knakcered mate.
