This very common problem has risen its ugly head again and im curious to know if anyone has ever fitted manual wind up "pusher uppers" for the window, think these are called the regulators. both sides have gone back ones are ok but its is bloody freezing with a 2 inch gab at the top of both and folder binders on top of the window frame isnt a very smart long term fix, any ideas?

thanks.

quite easy job mate,i have done it for both sides (electric windows but the same principle).i actually had the same problem withmy electric window as it did not shut fully and i found out the problem was the drive cable,a few rings on top were broken.just buy regulators of another car from a scrap yard make sure the doors are the same size though as the 3door and 5 door ones might have differences.
but how come you have manual windows on a cabriolet??

No at the moment i have ELECTRIC windows but i know this problems happens often so i wondered if i should do away with the potential hassle and fit manual ones.

At the moment my scrappy has a 16v R19 (not convertable) with electric windows, are you saying i can use them and all i have to do is remove the existing regulator (the thing shaped like a bow) and replace it with the one from the scrappy?

cheers, i am desperate here.

yes thats the way to do it .just take the door card out and remove 3 nuts around the motor plus there should be 2 extra bolts holding the regulator on top and bottom (u will see them all once u take the doorcard out)
removing the window from the plastic holder is the tricky bit as i always ended up breaking the plastic clip but it really does not matter you can always secure it with some strong tape or a thick wire .

once the window is seperated from the plastic holder just lift it up (back side up) and take it out of the frame.
the regulator will come out if you try moving it from different angles .
once you took it out you will probably see the broken drive cable rings on top
in my case the motor was perfectly working but the window was not fully shutting due to the cable.so i just got a manual window regulator and swapped the drive cable in to my existing regulator and it works great.

but as you allready found an electric one ,just took them from the scrappy and stick them on your doors.
the regulator goes in first and then the glass (the way you removed it) .the plastic pin on the regulator goes into the hole at the bottom of the window and it has to be secured if you did not break the plastic lock.

than fit the plastic rail to the bottom of the window .

make sure the window is inside the door rails and seals at the front and back as well.
thats it really ,its easier to do than write for sure.
hope this helps

the 3 door regulators are the only ones that fit the cab.

I was under the impression that the 3 door cab Window Regulators are different to the normal 3 door (With roof) models, Mine needs replacing and I had a 3 door regulator to swap with but it did,nt fit

P.S Dont go to renault main dealers they want £205 +VAT, and they are like rocking horse shit to find apparently.

3 door ones should fit, same on dialogys I think.

Motors are the same on all versions so if its just a motor you can swap it.

The rear ones though are cab only.

Well i attempted to replace the regulators and the difference in thickness between the 16v 3 door and the 16v 3 door cabriolet is very different, for fear of not having enough wait to hold the big window i decided the only option was to come up with another solution, this is what i did.

The original problem was that the window was sitting about 3 inches away from the top of the roof when "fully" raised.

I bought a few steel straight lengths about 6 inches worth and made 2 holes in each length, i screwed a secure nut and bolt into the main frame of the window regulator and the other hole held the bottom of the window, it used the same screw that was in it previously. So effectively the peice of steel pushed the window up a few inches and when i raised it to the roof it went all the way to the top. Just make sure the nuts and screws are very tight. I did the same on the other side and hey presto £2 from homebase and i have no more sodding wind, rain and snow.

I am delighted to say the least. Laughing Very Happy Wink
