the noise could be a damper or the exhaust hitting the body or the spare wheel carrier clonking.
The main beam problem is common and a new stalk from the scrapyard will sort it.
the links a common fault, the pin shears off. It shoudd be ok if you hook it over the slot thing thats still there. |

i had this prob with my r19 gtsx, it turned out to be the shock, there is a metal plate that goes around the top of the shock which sits in the wheel arch the plate rusts over time and then starts to fall through.
just check it out i may be wrong

yuo would know when that happens as the handling goes to pot and if the shell corrodes through the shocker pokes up into the boot. |

the handling on mine was good and the shell was perfect it was just the shock,
anyway it wasn't fully gone so there was only a bit of play. |

I had a really annoying knocking noise coming from the back end and was damned if I could work out what is was, can't remember how I discovered it but it turned out to be this:
On the LHS of the boot (mine's a chammy so might not be the same on a hatch) down behind where the jack clips there is a plastic vent with a flap (which presumably stops crap coming it but lets it out) which made a hell of a noise for such a small thing as it flapped open and shut when cornering (the boot must amplify it) simply taped it closed and never heard the noise again.
It was very loud though, thought it was suspension or the spare wheel but turned out to be this! |

that vents there so the air pressure equalises in the car. Ypou can pop windows if its sealed.
normally you only hear them when the doors are shut. |

hmmm - maybe I'd better not have it taped up then, always have the dash vents open though so should be ok. |
