ok idle as we knowis a bit lumpy on valvers as it is, but mine for months has started doing this:

without touching throttle at idle, it can go up and down anywhere between 800 and 1200 and on a bad day 700 to 1300. sounds like lambda right?

also when at high revs and then released, like putting the clutch in and letting them drop back to idle, it will fall past idle point to sometimes as low as 500rpm and either pick back up or cutout...not always but often. its like the ISCV isnt catching it in time. doesnt stop at about 1500 and settle nicely like it used to.

what ive done:

new lambda. made little diff. altho the idle does seem more stable but not as it used to be i.e. stablish, as far as 19s go.

also swapped ISCV for another but it was another old one so whether i happen to have 2 with identcal problems, it didnt solve it either, still drops too low when released! yes i have cleaned the ISCV out many times, wd40'd the conections...


erm...any ideas would be appreciated...

lambda isn't the prob. Idle control is.

Lambda does affect the idle but the better way to see if the lambda is dodgy is hold the revs around 2krpm with the clutch on biting point in 1st. it will be steady then it will rev up and down, up and down.

The idle control valve will be sticky or have a dodgy connection to it. Clean it with carb cleaner shake thre valve so it opens and closes and get the crap out. It can take a while to get it all out.

Check the connector plug as well, the wire as it goes into the plug can become dodgy.

The road speed sensor should keep the revs up around 1100rpm when coasting but if its not working then the idel should just drop straight back to 900 ish rpm.

well ill have a second going over of the ISCV and its connectors, but wheres the road speed sensor? is it somethign i can clean/replace?

its getting annoying, everytime i let off the throttle to return to idle, such as putting in the clutch, it shoots right down to about 600 then boiunces back up, quite often just cutting out. could any of this be related to the potentiometer on the TB?

well the connector to the ISCV is fine...the ISCV is clean...the lambda is new (as u knew) and it still goes up and down between 700 and 1300 approx at worse...and when lettin off the throttle dips to about 600 and bounces back up...HELP!!!

its broke then.

Road speed sensor is on the cable behind the clocks.

You need to make sure everthing is connected right.

Dissconnect the idle control valve and block the pipe off. what does it idle at?

erm...it doesnt...cuts out immediately...

i have 2 ISCV's so unless both have the same fault it must be somewhere else...BAH!!!!

is the throttle body clean?

Start the car after you clamp the hose.

Have you been arsign around with the screw thats meant to be set on top of the throttle body? Is the blanking plug missing?

Yeah I cleaned my throttle plates last night, the channel for the air to bleed through was pretty oily, and the inlet is manky. Would be worth while cleaning them to see if that clears it up/

cleaned manifold xmas time...(ur idea if u remember..i was bored one day lol) havent messed with the screw, its still covered in its original thread lock.

i did block it before starting it...would barely fire up...gave it a bit of throttle but then as soon as i took foot of - cut.

without blocking the tube....well

when u say butterfly set screw do u mean the screw on the top in that little boss? cos thats never moved...coverd in glue from factory like.

how would i go about checking the TPS? it looks ok lol...if i got a new one doesnt it need settin up in renault? or could i just buy a second hand throttle body and swap over?

cheers for the help...its gettin worse...the rev counters like a yoyo ...

im tempted to go to renault and ask them to have a quick look...but only a quick look...not book it in for a day of expense!

Hi on my 16 v clio i was havin exactly the same problem as you described for about 2 weeks and nothing i did would fix it. It seemed to be overfueling that was causing it to cut out, so i disconected the wire that plugs into the cold start injector and it instantly fixed the problem and its been fine since. On really cold days it may be a problem to start, but with the weather as it is at the moment its fine. I reckon this is wat u should try.

well i shall try it...will give anything a go...

so without the fifth injector did u have no probs starting? would it just not idle at first on the cold ones? suppose if it was that bad i cud just plug it in for starting...arse...but ill give it a go CHEERs mate

am gettin sick of it cuttin out as i go round a corner...scarey when the steering goes dead stiff....quick get that clutch up!! bumpf...back into life lol

cold start injector is a single injector, it enriches the mixture until the coolant reaches 20 degrees.

Unplugging it will not cause starting problems.

if its running when it shoudln't be then the temp sender is dodgy. Or its leaking which means isolating it from the fuel rail.

what could be leaking? the injector or the temp sender? temp sender being the sender not the sensor...as in the one on top not to the frt?? brown round one not white sqaure one.

do u think my probs could be related to these? wud unpluggin the fifth be reasonable?

i replaced the coolant temp senser only about 6 months ago tho...but not the sender...i thought the sender just fed the dial on the dash...not the ECU...

sender sensor same thing.

if you replaced the rectangle one then that won't be the prob.

the injector leaking.

Doubt its you problem though.

ive not run my cold startrt injector for about 2 years now. starts the car up fine in cold weather.

i had the same problem u had JB, when i was running my modified TB. seems as the tho the throttle pot was playing up, so i binned it. u got a spare TB, try that

I can see mine being attacked by the carbide cutter.
