what differences do the 2 F3P engines in the r19 1.8 8v SPI and r19 1.8 8v MPI have ?
this might be a silly question again but the only way to learn is to ask and take the risk of being stupid sometimes .so here i go ;
can a MPI head be swapped with an SPI head ? |

AFAIK, their the same apart from the single point/multipoint injection differences? Heads should just swap over. |

Yes they will swap but you will need the right cooling hoses to go with them. Only ones round the back.
Shouldn't need to swap the head either just the manifold and wiring loom. |

you sometimes give good news as well chris my good, wise man
so the heads are the same ,just need to get a manifold and the wiring loom .
is the wiring loom easy to install ?
the main question indeed is ,will i get 113bhp ? |

wiring is easy enough to do, take you time over it and its done.
You need manifold, wiring loom, ECU, throttle body if its not on the manifold etc etc
Will you get 113bhp, maybe, you will defintaly have more than you do now. A lot of the cars came from the factory with less than 113bhp. |

fair enough but than at least i will have full injection and probably a better throttle response .
how does it work with insurance and dvla though ? i believe they have to be declared and written on the logbook as well ? |

needs to be declared on insurance but not DVLA as the engine is staying the same. |

hmmm - sounds interesting but not really sure it's worth it.
RSIs (with the MPI engine) are harder to come by than valvers up here and I'd not be too keen on swapping bits of engine around, your going to loose reliability when you start doing that & I need a car which will reliably take me the 100mile a day commute I do.
For all the hassle of swapping bits of engine around for less than 20bhp I'd rather just drop a valver engine in.
Don't get me wrong - go for it if you get the chance I'd be very interested in the outcome |

i did not think it would make the car unreliable ,would it ?
i probably wont be able to do this very easily anyway .first off all nobody would sell the manifold ,ECU and the wiring loom without the head
secondly , i am not that capable to mess with it but sure i can ask for help on here .but than again its good to know ,you can gain nearly 18bhp with a few extra bits .
this i believe is quite good thinking there are people out there expecting a 5bhp increase with decat |

indeed why woudl it make it any more un-reliable?
I would go so far as to say it would increase reliabilty as you won't have the same bore washing problems or lean problems you get with the very poor SPI.
You have bother forgotten the standard manifold is crap, Crossers from RSC asked me what to do with his old RSI manifolds etc, I told him where to remove metal and he did and the car went a lot better after that.
So if the engine as it is good then with swapping to MPI and tidying up the poor casting should net you if your lucky 120bhp. |

I stand corrected, Chris explanation explained a lot, 120bhp certainly does sound attractive
Did the lagunas not have the 1.8mpi engine? |

have a feeling it was SPI, it was very under powered for the car, I had one for three years although it was heaps better than the 2.2d a truly dreadful car, we nick named it the slug which is unfair to sluggs as they could probably move faster than a 2.2d laguna |

Lagunas did indeed come with the 1.8 SPI and MPI engines. But if your going for a laguna then get the F4R 2litre MPI, thats 120bhp as standard but can easily be upped. |

That would be my view jonny - although it would be nice to get more power out of my current car, it's going to be easier just to get one with a decent engine in the first place. |

dont misunderstand me guys ,i have different intentions bringing up this stuff
as i mentioned earlier ,its nothing to do with buying a valver instead
i will indeed buy a valver sooner or later but i also decided to keep the black rt as a spare car so i can keep one on road for a while and rest it for sometime to do the repairs and keep one car on road at a time . and i will have the time to mess with the SPI engine when i am running the valver ,so why not get more power and fuel efficeny from a car you are willing to keep ?
i would not bother if i was gonna sell it |
