had a chat with my next door neighbour today about her t reg 1.2 3 door clio .
a few days back i saw her struggling by her car and asked whats wrong ,her handbrake was locked and would not let the car move at all . i messed with the handbrake lever a few times and sorted the problem .

today she told me something rather weird ;
in some car park while she was reversing (after driving a few meters back),the rear wheels lock suddenly and the car stops .

is there a logical explanation to this problem or is she just trying to chat me up everytime she sees me out messing with my car ?

the car has ABS by the way

Heh, deffo a problem with the rear brakes, wouldn't have thought it would be the ABS tho, as that releases the the brakes, not engages them, could be dodgy rear brake shoes.

forgot to mention ,the handbrake was off while she was reversing and she managed to reverse for a few meters before the brakes locked up . so its not the handbrake only me thought

i suppose both wheels were locked ,in fact i am not sure she would be able to tell if they were the rear or front wheels
is there a pump running the ABS system like the power steering system ?

shoes. The linings are bonded to the shoes but they break away. Its onyl clios and some saxos that I have found this prob on but its not rare. And they are all younger than 98 as well.

Starts off liek you described, handbrake off but it sticks. Then after a while the car moves then the rear wheels lock up.
