whatever you fo do not select 2nd gear at 90mph. I did today. Engine buzzed right round.

Still runs etc but it sounds like a valve springs broke or a lifters collapsed.

The cloud of smoke out the back had to be seen to be believed.

also the alt lights blinking again, probably didn't like being spun up to whatever revs it went to.

nope I was cruising along MP private motorway when some chav in his rover 200 with its nedded up bumpers and lexus lights decided to pull out in front, so I went to 3rd, realised I was doing 90 ish so went for 4th which was 2nd.

Stuck it in 4th and it was still running and pulled so I carried on admiring my extremlely large cloud of black smoke.

its starts fine etc but theres a definate new clatter in there which wasn;t there before my miss-hap.

looks like that old hatch engine will get dusted off and see some action again after all eh!

you can't hear it in the car, only when outside and the bonnet up.

Sound like its solely number 2 cyl.
