I was in the salvage yard today looking for another salvage repairable project. I stumbled across a 1.2 mpfi clio on an early R reg phase 1 shape but with the facelift. Could I rip the engine out and put a megane 90ish bhp 1.6 mpfi 8v lump straight in, as aren't they the same block with the same mounts. The gear boxes look the same also, or would the meganes be slightly different internals. Would it run off the 1.2 ECU? How about a Laguna 2.0 8v? Twisted Evil

yes the engine will fit no it won;t run on a 1.2 ECU and the mounts will need to be swapped with 1.4 energy clio mounts. Use the 1.6's box as that will stop it revving its arse off on the motorway

yes a lag 2litre will, fit same size externally as the 1.8 rsi lump.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet... Must admit I like the 1.6 mpfi lump. My girlfriend had it in her phase 1 megane. acceloration wise it was spot on, only lacking a tad in mid range. The engine responded very well to a free flow filter and back box though. With the lighter clio shell surely it will be slightly nippier to 60 mph. hmmmmm 2ltr or 1.6, 2ltr or 1.6..........
