Ok, today is the first day i have really pushed my phase 2 R19 16 valve since changing the cam belt and tensioners etc a couple of weeks ago.

I got her up to 125mph @ 6500 rpm, take it any higher than 6500 rpm and i get a warning light flash on the instrument panel and the engine cuts out, dip below 6500 rpm and its straight back to normal.

Now looking in the handbook the warning light is indicated as Electronic or Auto Transmission warning light (its not an auto box so has to be electronic related)
It's also the same warning light that is activated with the anti theft alarm when you first put in the ignition key.

Also in the handbook it says if this happens whilst driving it could indicate an injection computer fault, can anyone be more specific?

The ECU is fitted with a superchip.

Cheers

the joys of ph2's, at 6.5krpm you should be doing 130 ish in a ph1.

Anyway the superchip, throw that in the bin its shite.

Does the light go out when you drop the revs below 6.5k? I know you said it cuts out but I'm assuming it started again with a bump and the split second a bump takles the engine should have been goign again.

This has a lot of possibilites tbh.

Stick the ph1 ECU in it and see if it does it again.

JB - Yes all gears if u go over 6500 RPM

Chris - Yes light goes out again as soon as the revs go below 6500 RPM

At first i thought it may have some kind of rev limiter put on but i can't see any evidence of one having been wired in or one existing as most rev limiters would be accesable so that of course you can adjust the limiter.

I'll swap over the ECU's and give her another test this afternoon.

sounds like that ECU is up the spout...the std limiter shouldnt cut the engine out nor make the ECU light on the dash light up...

Well, I swapped out the ECU's.
Put the phase 1 16 valve ECU in the phase 2 16 valve and the phase 2 won't even start on it.
Tried the phase 2 16 valve ECU in the phase 1 16 valve and same thing, the phase 1 wont start on the phase 2 ECU.

both ECU's are siemens btw

so there goes that test . .

The phase 1 btw pulls like a train all the way up to 135mph Smile

the limiters set at 7krpm, on the really early ones its 7.2krpm.

You really need to fiund out whats happenign to make it cut out. There will be a fault flagged when it does it, but you need to be quick to catch it.

But if it happens in all gears then thers a pattern at least. Its not so much load dependant so you can rule out wiring (almost), the lambda etc is ignored even if it wasn't a light would come on it would cut out.

It couldbe many things but I would see about trying to find someone with a ph2 to get a shot of their ECU.

in fact thinking about it remove the crank angle sensor which is on top of the bellhousing, make sure there are no scuff marks on it and its free from metallic partivcles.
