Hi All
I've just noticed that my rocker cover is leaking oil. I think my gasket is buggered.
If i change it, will i have to do anything else??
What else will it have done, apart from leak oil that i should pull my attention to?
Chars

clean the oil up. It will have seeped down to the ht leads etc, so clean the oil off of them.
You could adjust the tappets at the same time. |

Is it just a case of changing the gasket, or is there more to it?
Cheers

wait wait wait......adjust the tappets? Aren't they self adjusting? I've recently changed my rocker cover gasket, and I didn't do anything else, just chaged gasket. Pic of job in progress......

I don't have a 16v. Only a 1.4energy. Therefore tappets can be done.
Not old enough to insure a big boys toy yet. Although, next year.... who knows!!!
Cheers

They are adjustable on 16v's? Hmm I always thought they were self adjusting. Maybe I can shut them the hell up from being so noisy then? |

no the 16V's are hydraulic thus self adjusting, if they are noisy they will need cleaned, which is fun.
Unless of course the internal spring has collapsed. |

i think i know what he is talking about , the tappets of the 1.6 8v escort engine were like that ,they had springs and hydrolic oil in them .
so what do the adjustable tappets look like ? |

they do go for megabucks comparing with a k/l reg ,especially due to low milage ,good condition etc
but the problem is ,they are not found easy ,
sorry i lied ,there is a silver exec in my town ,it has got a small dent on the rear arch which spoils the whole car . would love to own it though . |

Nah I got mine from cambridge. Spotted it on ebay, got in touch with the guy and asked if I could have it, so he ended the auction early and I whipped up there and got it. He wanted £1500 for it, but I gave him £1400. This was just over a year ago with 76k on the clock. Legend car. Only major problem I have had was the throttle position sensor, got that sorted, now the frikkin heater matrix has gone lol. Ah well. 11 year old car......what d'ya expect. |

£1400 a year ago is mega bucks imo especially when you can buy a k/l reg valver for 300-400quid these days
but than again,if you want a decent car that you want to keep for years and years thats the sort of price you should be paying . |

aye spring in the central plunger, the spring pushes the ball bearing up to seal the oil in the plunger. |
