Was out Radio Marshaling on the Snowman Rally, 1st round of the scottish rally championship, on Saturday. Based around Inverness.
Just managed to live up to it's name, frequent heave snow showers later in the day gave an inch or so of snow, not really enough to give any major challenge but looked nice. V V cold though, droped to -4 at one point plus a significant wind chill.
Had a lot of fun driving the stages, especialy once there had been some snow, was made a bit more interesting after all the rally cars had been through and compacted the snow to a sheet of ice, my tyres really are rather poot in the snow, still I managed to have a good bit of fun on a snow (mainly ice) covered forest track , much fun on the corners - having ABS was V annoying though
Managed to take a few pics with my crappy phone camera (appologies for the quality - or lack of it) My mate had a proper digi cam with video so watch this space.
------------------------------
At Scrutineering on friday night in inverness:
The sound of 3 Metro 6r4s together in a confined space is something else!
Shame about the ned lights
another scooby
Rover 200 converted to rear wheel drive
------------------------------
SS1 Saturday morning near Drumnadrochit (Loch Ness):
Nice ex-WRC impreza
...and another one
Mitsubishi Evo
Ford Puma
205's are a popular choice for 'cheap' rallying
Vauxhall Ashtray
And to the retro....
Mk 2 escorts are always out in force at these events
Capri
Opel Manta
And the good old mini!
------------------------------
SS8 Saturday afternoon near Tain - and some snow - more came later but no piccys:
Rear Drive 205
another 205
Neds favourite, the Nova
..oh no another Nova
The good old Sierra Cosworth
---------------------------------
All in all a good day was had by all, look out for round 2 in march, the border Counties based around Jedburgh.
...sorry for the long post |

or just a "fun racing" type event?
got to love the good old mini. |

Roger, yes it is a proper championship check out http://www.scottishrallychampionship.co.uk/ for more info.
Competition is pretty tough at the top with folk using £150k ex-WRC cars but ranges right down to guys just out for fun.
There's 8 rounds over the year including the Scottish Rally and Jim Clark rally which are also rounds of the british championship.
Usually around 100 entries in each rally so plenty of cars to see. |

no idea mate, the entry list just says opel manta, it's been doing the rallys for years and is always running fairly well down the order so i doubt if it's anything special. |
