I couldn't resist it - went to look at this earlier in the week and decided to take the plunge and bought it yesterday:

Image

it's a 97 P-reg Seat Toledo 2.0 16v, that's basically the 150bhp gengine out of the Golf GTI - I'm well pleased with it - it's certainly a damn sight quicker than my 1.8spi handles much better too. It came with full service history and a full years MOT 83k from new and in mint condition it's totaly standard and doesn't look like it's ever been in the hands of a ned.
Hopefully the German mechanicals will give me reliable service for a good time to come.

Despite the bigger engine it gives me better economy than my 19 - the trip computer gave me an average of 40mpg traveling back from glasgow - my 1.8spi would only give about 35ish. I suppose the more powerful engine won't have to work so hard - revs lower in 5th too.

The fate of the 19 is undecided as yet, don't really want to get rid of it but can't afford to insure 2 cars and could do with the money to offset some of the cost of the toledo - hmm decisions decisions - trying to fob it off to a mate who's looking for a car at the moment but I think he's heard me swear at it too often Laughing - any one want to make me an offer Wink

Aye Chris - I'll drop by one evening mate, not this week as I'm off to Cambridge for work tomorrow. Will let you know.

Yeah the SPI has been fairly good to me reliability wise, but it does have a habit of not starting occasionally (starter motor buggered but cba to replace it!)
Partly why I wanted something new is the SPI is going to need a few things doing, needs a new tyre, clutch is starting to slip slightly when pulling off, and the brakes prob need new pads or something so thought I'd rather buy me self a new car than spend too much money on the SPI.

lol - you'll have to give me your best attempt first - I should really start compiling a list of all the different pronounciations (sp?) I've had over the years!

I remember in Primary 1 my teacher had to spell it for me Embarassed

Yep got it back and working on it right now actually!

Starters out, driver driveshaft, the main starter wiring loom off, brackets etc off, nothing is as it should be. So I am doing it right. The starter needs looked at, loom secured properly, broken plastic sleeving taped up. Should hopefully by the end of day be cranking over no bother!

I never even tried to say it! I just looked and thouyght, is he a Chezh or something? I will give it a go though when I see you.

I have a nice easy surname, Hall, 4 letters easy to say, easy to spell!
