i have a clio 1.4 rt auto. It will start first time most of the time but, every so often, when i turn the key all i get is a clicking sound and nothing else.
I can try this a few times and nothing happens, leave it for a few hours, try it again and it will start no problem. can anyone help please.

Clicking could be starter motor! make sure all connections ar tight on battery as well!

where does the clicking come from?

If its from the starter then its either to hot (not normally a problem), dodgy connections or its duff.

If its clicking from a relay or even the stick itself maybe a dicky inhibitor switch.

If you move the stick from n to p then try does it work then?
