I was looking at the 0-60 times for my 1.4i r19 and it was 12 seconds and a bit.

I have managed 15 and thats pushing it. How did they get 12?

Any ideas about how I can get the 12 seconds 0-60 I want please advise me.

Is it just a case of a fluid change of some sort or what? I have a new exhaust system and inductioin kit so I am stumped why I only get 15.

Thanks

all cars are tested for 0 to 60 secs on a perfect day/ perfect test track/ perfect engine/ perfect everything..!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When i first got my 16v chammy i looked at the book,,, it said ummm i cant remember but i was getting a second or so down,,, so i then starteded moding and now i do it at the book yime lol.....

Im sure they test the car and get 1 time and then add 1 to 5 seconds on there just to make you mod it lol.. OR its just to piss u off....

In my opinion 0-60 times dont really say an awful lot.

For example the 0-60 time on my 2.8 audi coupe was only 8 seconds but I am sure it was quicker than a 1.9 turbo diesel golf. Shocked

You really have to take into consideration all the other aspects of an engine´s power output.

I think it was something dreamt up by car makers to sell cars once speed limits were imposed after the test run of the cobra up the M1 in the 60´s! ( Incidently to measure top speed not 0-60 times ).

From what I can gather cars were sold on top speeds in them days and I am not sure they were always 100% honest about them...unfortunately I am sure the problem still persists today.

Look at TVR for example...boasting power outputs of 240bhp and then when placed on the rolling road lucky to get 210bhp.

Of course every car is different...even with modern production facilities.

Just drive it.

12.2 seconds is the 0-60 time of the 1.4 carb think that your economy spfi is slower to 60. My energy used to fly. Get Chris to sort the head out.

the power figures given, i.e the r19 16v has a power figure of 137hp, this is at the flywheel, hense the tvr's power figure is lower than stated. the transmission will take power out, aswell as the diff, driveshafts, and uj's on the tvrs.

My Renualt 19 1990

If 2nd gear equates to 60mph max then I got it in 10.6secs as per the speedometer. I Know what your thinking, no way ha ha.

I have no idea how accurate the speedo is on an r19 but the car was flat out in 2nd with an indicated 60mph. I have the evidence recorded but its 26meg long and don’t know how to compress it.

I don’t believe it is that fast (speedo errors+ancient car) But for the record here’s the figures I got

3.7secs – 30mph
change gear at 32 mph
7.7secs – 50mph
10.6secs – 60mph
and flat out in 2nd gear

Does anyone know the max speed in 2nd gear? (Five speed gearbox)

well 2nd gear speed vaires on the box and what engine it is. Carbed energys rev off the clock, whilst SPI engines only go to 6.5krpm.

6500 rpm and a carb gets more!!!!!!!!!

I'm more than impressed. My R19 has a sunroof, 5sp, and thats it. Le Sport model, hmmm. Oops theres a spoiler as well. No rev counter, electrics. Just a speedometer and fuel gauge, you wind your own windows. Poverty spec but decent engine.

Does anyone Know what the Weber equiped carb revs to on an Energy engine?

well the carbed engines revs until the rods let go or valve float.

On the original head on mine it used to rev to about 8.5krpm. Then when I swapped the head it only went to about 7600rpm due to valve float, 16V dash has 8k rev counter so could see it.
