Every time I turn on my ignition I notice that my dash computer on my 19 16v flashes on and off with an 8888 sign. Not much of a problem I know but it leads me to think that it may loose its memory when turned off.

However I've noticed that with the ignition off, the dash computer still flashes on and off, however very dimly.

Should it do this? Could the two problems be related?

I figure it is obviously an electrical problem but would it be a Wiring problem or a problem within the instrument panel itself?

you have had the battery disconnected at some point or one of the meters has reached its max.

u need to reset it

to do this turn the ignition on and turn the trip knob (the one on the speedo) to the right.

Computer is now reset.

Thanks very much.

Are there any other swiches that need to be reset once the power has been disconnected? or is that the only one?

do you mean the digi clock on the middle console ?
digi clock lights up an amber screen as well as the comp . and not characters on the screen .
can it be a blown fuse somewhere ??
where is the multi connector plug ???

nope, not the time clock, i meant the speedo, rev counter etc

the multiconnector goes on the back of those, there are several, if i remember right the computer's one is a green one that connects to the side of the display.

you would have to remove the pod to check, maybe chris h has a better idea before you go to the trouble of removing it althou its a pretty easy job.

would it still illuminate in amber even though the connector was disconnected ???

as i mentioned the digi clock seems to be suffering with the same problem,if that gives a clue ??

it would still illuminate because the display gets its power from the main circuit on the clock pod, the multiconnector feeds the info to the display from the ECU.

not sure about the digital clock next to the switches.

thats a stand alone unit, does not rely on info coming from an ECU, just has power going to it and is on the lighting circuit.

if u have dialogsys, there is a diagnostic page for the dash comp.

i dont have access to my dialogsys cos its on my work PC, it never installed properly on this one
