wow they have a use aside from part numbers and prices.
trying to source what a part number was I looked at the tech manuals bit and out came the re-call/warrenty crap.
Full of intresting stuff, some well known (dipsticks) some I never head of, check valve in the aux water pump circuit to help the car heat up quicker by not letting coolant pass to the top rad hose, I think i need one of them.
The dodgy ABS bleeding tips are amusing though.
Also the weight fitted to the clutch cables, well some of them was due top a recall on the diesel engines, its an acoustic weight to reduce harmonics sent to the pedal! lol |

2nd or 3rd gear jumping out a missing pair of washers in the gearbox, quality control at its best |

well I now knwo theres about 25 more issues witha megane than the 19.
i looked before for stuff but not hard enough. Most of it is either, known obvious or the cars wouldn't have lasted to the gates though.
As for the speedo, in the dialogies it says they were meant to use grease to prevent future seizure. I think i have seen 2 19s with grease on the end of the cables!
Anyway, on the plastic efforts then the plastic holds it in. Chances are though that the metal part of the speedo cable is stuck solid in the box due to corrosion. The white chamade has this problem, I pulled and the cable came out but left the end in the box, no probblem as the box is junk anyway.
On my blue energy I had a similar problem, i broke what I could away of the cable end then cut a new cable to fit |

Ahh... whats that about weights fitted to cables, when I snapped my clutch cable recently I found two huge rolls of lead wrapped around it. Whats that for? |

same with this white one JB. The plastic is clipped to the cable
the plastic is still clipped to the metal end and thats came away from the grey outer cable.
Weights on the cable are to stop the pedal getting vibrations when you press the clutch. |

ahh now i see how it works...and also why i could not get it out...the black plastic bit...u need to squeeze the arms at the top to unhook it from the white bit yeah? well there are no arms left on mine..typical...may just cut/smash/burn the bits out and get new ones...the cable came out, but looking at that the big bit on the end of the cable is still in there...i just got a straight bit of cable |

Yeah, you squeeze them, no good though if the bottom bit has corroded to the box. |

well i worked on mine with the box on the floor in frt of me and it was still a complete arse...had to just twist and force it out...mine did not look anything like that one...mine is the shittest one-way design ever.,...it will pop in easy but theres no way it was coming back out....stupid moron who designed that.
soo....now i need a new speedo cable and the bits that go in the box...well i assume i need a new speedo..i ripped the speedo out so it is just the cable...the "lump" that it is attached to stayed in the platic bits in the box...i did take pics...on phone..havin probs with the phone so pics will be delayed |

liKE i SAID THATS THE STANDARD DESIGN. THEY ARE all LIKE THAT.
caps soz
you will either have tyo modify a new cable or get another casing or get another box.
if you drill the broken bit otu the box will be full of swarf and the plastic speedo gear will be knackered anyway |

no no i got it all out, but the lump on the end of the cable is no longer attached to the cable....its silly...the white bit has "knobs" on it that locate in holes in the hole in the box..but then the black bit and cable fills the inside of the white ..so how r u meant to depress the white bit to get the lugs out the holes in the box if u cant depress it! crazy i say....can i buy them bits off you? |

well the black bits meant to slide out so you just squeeze the white bits together and it will slide out.
I have spare white and black bits somewhere but I ain't sure but they are cheap from ren, I'll look on dialogies the now and get the part numbers and prices. |

black bit
77 00 799 654 CLIP SPEEDO CABLE 1.16 ---3 x 1
white bit
77 00 799 655 CLIP SPEEDO CABLE 1.16 ---3 x 1
or to save all that crap and assuming you get the rest out the wire clip is
77 00 729 283 CLIP SPEEDO DRIVE .49 ---3 x 1
The wire clip does away with the plastic stuff and I have yet to have a problem with one of these. The plastic ones are fine as well as long as they are greased I suppose.
Need to look on dialogioes for the lagunas hose and go order/get it.
Bought a front spring for it today and a new lambda sensor socket. |

is this what your left with?
the metal base is still stuck in there but the cable is out
if so the to secure it properly yes a new cable unless your re-using that box.
I just stuck the white un's back in and it works, not worked loose but its not gone anywhere aside from round the block a few times. |

yes that what originally happened...just the cable came out leavin those bits in...but i since got the white and black plastic bit out too...and the metal bit....im thinking the metal bit is just meant to be attached to the cable and held in by the plastic things so the cable doesnt come out...think ill just try fixin the cable back to the metal bit and bodging it...
70 odd for a new un from renault! |
