I decided to cahnge my foglight bulbs yesterday thinking that the reason they weren't working was obviously a blown bulb or fuse.
had a good look in the fuse box and found no dedicated fuse for the front foggs (phase 1 model doesn't seem to have one)
I changed the bulbs anyway and supprise supprise... nothing happened.
I hooked the bulbs up to the battery and the chassy just to see if they were working, which they were. (good start)
I then hooked the original power supply to them and grounded them to the chassy.(not working)
then tried them the other way, powered off the battery and grounded from the original earth wire. (again not working)
I'm now lost, I cant belive that both the negative and positive wires on both sides are broken. (possible but very unlikely, I would have thourght)
I read the haynes manuel and there seems to be 3 relays to control them,
the first two are the front foglight shunts (what the hell is a shunt?) and the other is the front foglight relay.
would any of these cause the problem?
Why would a broken relay stop the earth wires functioning? |

I remember this post now. Check the main plug on the front slam panel for corrosion, the indicators go through it as well but they can work and the fogs not. |

Ok, checked it and fount 1 terminal to be a little dirty. Gave it a clean and now the passenger side fog works. should be able to run a wire to the other one if I get no sucess whilst playing with it.
cheers mate.
Also just behind the bonnet latch I found a femail two pin plug which ran parralel with the headlight wires?? It's not connected to anything and other than the other fog everything else is working.
any Ideas to what this is for? |

The little things like foglights don't normaly take too long to sort, unlike some of the other things that go wrong with these cars.
It's nice to get everything working and bring her back to a reasonable standard.
She's still got some way to go though. |

90% of the time to get the fogs out they need drilled, also most of the time the whole back has corroded away to nothing.
PITA and they should never be used unless your an arse. |

They did...but in some fog.
I believe the cut off point is when visibilty is below 100yards.
There is only one thing worse than having some dumb f..k up your arse with his front fogs on...thats being stuck behind some dumb f..k with his rear fogs on!
Road rage fodder. |

Personaly I don't think fogs are as dazzaling as the high vis bulbs for headlights.
Those things look like there always on full beam! |

i still had to cut the screws on one side even with the bumper out cause some muppet ferked the heads of the screws .
on the other side the screws were perfectly fine ,they came out easy ,i think renault used some classy ( non rusting ) metal making those screws |
