Just did a comp test on the 16v, readings were 173-177-166-170. We noticed a lot of water spurting out of cyl 3 and when we retested it it read 250 before we stopped. It was a fair bit of water too, i dunno if it went in from the plug well, but we didnt see any in there before we took the plug out so thats unlikely.
Water was sploshing up far enugh to hit the bonnet. We think the header tank level dropped durinig the comp test too. So what do we say? Water leaking through the headgasket in to cyl3? On a side note the water managed to force the plug that was resting in there up out and over the top of the engine |

OK I've just seen the video that you did Huw and if you've got water behind door No.3 then i'm sure it's consumping coolant. We've just put a new lump in Leannes 19 and it did smoke as per the video for a while and there was also some mayo at the filler cap to but in this case the engine had been sat idle for 8 months and it was just condensation. The fact that you're getting a missfire, loosing coolant and getting oil and coolant mixing at the bottom end isn't a good sign i'm affraid geeza.
When you did the head the last time was it pressure tested and skimmed (If required)? |

You mean you changed the head gasket without having the head pressure tested before refitting? Doh! I'm betting it needs a good skim if it's not too badly warped. You might have to replace the head though if it's too far gone.
Nice Valver by the way... Nice colour and it sounds ferkin lursh Will have to put up a video of Leanne's some time soon cos it sounds very similar |

right so lots of water came out but your not sure if it was in there...
you do knwo the engine wouldn;t turn if there was a lot of water int here, or if it did a rod woudl have bent, piston crown holed and so on. |

Yes i know that, im guessing that when the engine was running the water was seeping in to the cylinder and being burnt off as steam, hence the misfire? And since the plug was out and the engine was just being cranked it wasn't burning it off? I could be way off the mark but its just a guess. Im damned sure it didnt enter the cylinder via the spark plug hole as we checked them before we took the plugs out. |

hmm for that amount of water then the car wouldn't run or it shouldn't as 20cc is enough to lock the engine |

when we were doing the compression test, the water was belching out of cylinder 3. far too much water was there for it to have been left over from being pressure washed.
when we took the head off, there was next to no water (save for a few droplets of water) in the bore of cylinder 3, however, there was a fair bit of water in the bore of cylinder 2 (not enough to cover the top of the piston crown).
furthermore, upon a brief inspection of the gasket...it looks fine.

is it coolant from the system?
or just normal water coming in from somewhere else....as chris said it cant have been in there, causing the probs u were getting before as it simply would not have run...surely it could have only got in there from on top of the plug.
when u sanded that head, u didnt score it too much did u? im sure u didnt...whatabout the face of the block? is that ok? |

so you jet washed it then found water on it then you know for sure that it came from inside the engine...
Ok you muppets believe what you want but as always my original answer was correct. |
