ok, are you ready for this, been talking to a guy who claims he is an ExRenault Tech (aren't they all when trying to sell something renault related) and has 240bhp from his r19.
Guy was selling an ECU on ebay for £10 and i thought i would have another standard one kicking about just in case whilst i perform my tests on Mick Penny's chips.
One thing he told me about this ECU is that its been upgraded by renault by flashing the bios (same as you would do on your pc), i was skeptical on this but now have had it confirmed by my local renault dealer that you can indeed flash the bios on the ECU's. but this is still standard in its mapping and rev limit etc, just means its running the latest version of the renault software.
His ECU thou he claims is 'tuned' where the software has changed fueling, ignition timing and rev limit (same thing a superchip does basicly), he also says he is running Green injectors, str8 thru exhaust, induction kit and has a PSi booster linked into his inlet manifold which he says 'stores fuel and air for when you need it and adds 15bhp'
he also says he has adjusted his TB and again in his words 'on the throttle body, roll bk the throttle and ull see
it opens a small one first then the big one which gives you the power band
at bout 4grand try putting a bolt in the first slid and you can move power
band lower in rev range! '
personally i don't see all this lot adding up to 240bhp!
your opinions on this ? (once you have got off the floor and stopped laughing that is) |

ROFL
To be honest i dont know why car manufacturers have bothered with engine development at all in the last 15 years, you can get 240BHP out of an old 1.8 with just an ECU remap, a bodged throttle body and a 'psi booster'(WTF?).
People like Honda are going backwards arent they really with a mere 197BHP from their 2litre, maybe they need to get this guy on board, im sure he could take it up to 350BHP using a resistor and a fag packet. |

Jammin the first trottle plate open? That'll really help. Even gettin both plates opening at the same time will do more harm than good |

hehe, i dont think he means to jam it open, just have some sort of adjustment on it so it kicks in lower down the rev range.
needless to say after talking to him, i did not buy his ECU . . |

I honestly dont know what goes through peoples' heads sometimes. Ive been fending off bullshit for as long as i remember.
I recall as a kid, one of my mates handed me a BBC electron computer game cassette, and tried assuring me it would work on my commodore 64. Even at that young impressionable age i could use simple logic to realise that i didnt even need to 'just try it' to know it wouldnt work. There are a lot of people about it would seem who have still yet to develop this skill.
I now take it as a personal insult when people try to bullshit me. They obviously think I am stupid enough to be sucked in. Calling me an idiot basically. |

lol
ECU software upgrades are very common, you have a new ren go down, get the latest one in for about 35quid.
19's ete won't gave any updates though, meganes and new clios etc usually come out transformed, a simple niggle in the warm up map can be a right arsehole.
1.8 16V with upped a tad limiter, stock injectors, stock fuel pressure and running the standard plenum 240bhp, its simply not possible.
Most I have seen from a stocker, stocker as in everything done but stock injectors and runnign stock plenum is about a true 160bhp. |
