Ok, I apologise in advance for this question! Is there a way of getting in about the instrument panel without disconnecting the speedo? Basically I have 2 problems with disconnecting it...a) I can't find the bloody thing and b) from what I've read on here it's near impossible to get it off without breaking it! Cheers guys.

you can disconnect the speedo cable at the gearbox end and that will allow you to pull the instrument panel out a little way with the speedo cable still attached. However, getting the cable out of the gearbox without breaking it is harder in most cases than getting it off the back of the instruments.

Its really only the ham fisted gung-ho types who break the sender on the speedo end of the cable.

Ok...this may seem like a silly question...where on the gearbox is the speedo cable???? I've looked and looked and I just can't see it!!! I'm not that ham fisted unless absolutely necessary most of the time Very Happy

its right down the back, slap bang in the middle. If you find the rear mount, the cable goes down the centre of the bracket that goes between the gearbox and the mount.

All you will be able to do with it in situ really is pull and pull on the cable until it either comes out or breaks Confused

I always undo them at the instrument panel. Undo the cap underneath the steering column (where the steering hight adjustment sits) shine with a flashlight up there you can see the speedo cable and how it's settled. Just to the bugger and try to be nice. I luckily never killed one but hey sometime has to be the first time

when the speedo cable has been fitted properly at the factory it cannot be pulled through as its trapped by the heater box, so dissconnecting it at the box isn't gonna do anything, as to pull it through you have to remove the display!

Xvisors way is the righty way, long flat screwdriver pop the mofo off.

Most of the time though theres enoguh slack so you can twist it up a bit then use pliers on the tags
