silly question, but i am not 100% sure...
are snoopers 100% legal to have on your car? only i thought i heard somewhere that you can get fined if you're caught with them. or is this referring to some other sort of detection unit?

i believe the road angel ones use GPS combined with a database of known 'accident blackspots' (speed camera sites) to tell you when youre near one. They dont actually 'detect' the camera as such.
Devices which detect cameras or speed sensing devices arent legal
Thats if i have understood it correctly. |

Im pretty sure Rader detectors arent illegal...yet. Laser jammers however, you really dont want to be caught using. |

detectors are currently legal, work great on gatso's and mini gatso's but not worth a wank for lasers.
they will pick up a laser but cos lasers work at speed of light, by time ur detector shouts at u 'LASER' your speed and number plate is already recorded and i talk from experience here sadly
96mph on the A14 a few weeks ago, my snooper chirped to tell me laser, i slammed on to get down to 70mph but i still got the NIP with my picture, awww how nice of them.
Laser deflectors work, but are illegal and if your stopped and its on your car, even if its not plugged in, you will recieve a nice 3 points on ur license and the crime would be Intention of Use as the 2 deflectors need a permant fixing on your front bumper.
Jan 2006 and detectors like the snooper will become illegal.
GPS systems however will remain legal as they only give information on FIXED sites, not mobile ones.
most of us know where fixed cameras are in our home area and know to slow for them, most of us can spot a fixed camera too and brake in time to not get caught, fixed camera sites simply do not catch as many speeders as mobile cameras and of course as these bring in the most revenue, the government is banning use of detectors that can pick them up. |
