Icelands Renault 19 RT Phase2 project

Hello,

My name is Skuli and im from Reykjavik, Iceland.
I just recently got a hold of a Renault 19 RT 1.8 '95 from an insurance auction. My plan is to get it into great shape again Wink

The best part its only driven 129.000 km.
Here are some pics of my upcoming project:

What it needs is a front bumper, front passenger side fender and a blinker.

the damage don't look to bad. was that an insurance write of then?

yep that will have been a write off. The cars not worth anythign due to its age and its not worth repairign in the insurers eyes.

i saw a 2 year old xantia written off because the carpet needed replacing due to flood damage!

Yeah, they paid the owner average market price and then sell it for as much as they can. The workshop cost is obviously greater then the worth. Of course its calculated to use a new fender, new bumper, new lights. Then its the painting cost ofcourse.
I got it for around 600 pounds if i convert my currency into pounds.
I'll keep posting the progress as it goes on Wink

I found the parts i need from a Renault salvage shop. Now its just time to get the money Smile

I also have to change to winter tires since its starting to snow heavily and temp is getting below zero.
It had lousy all season tires on 14 inch steel rims when i got it, also had Laguna hub caps Smile

. I was also surprised to see it was on 175/70R14, isnt that very high for this car?

nope those tyres are ok, I used to run 175/65 13's on my old 19's. Standard ren size.

What i've been upto the past few days is not very much....
1. Changed the interior light completely with one i got from the scrapyard.
Also there weren't 7w bulbs available so i just put 10w in there Rolling Eyes

2. Changed one of the fog light button since i broke one when taking it apart Embarassed

Was wise enough to grap the whole button set from the scrapyard for future mistakes Wink

3. Changed the bulb for the heater control panel.
4. Added 350ml of power steering fluid...the resevoir was EMPTY Shocked

That fixed the steering A LOT, stopped all squeeking when turning hard.
5. Added a bit of coolant since the engine was getting very hot.
Fixed the temperature a bit...but i havent gotten the temperature sensor below half level yet. have to add more when i catch the engine cold next time.

The next days i will hunt for the body parts i need and the back panel light and front drivers side indicator light.....
I have to check the screenwash motor since it doesnt give me anything even with the resevoir completely full Confused

Also its starting to need a wash, inside and out

When you filled the power steering resovoir did you bleed it? To do this you keep it full and turn it slowly lock to lock. This purges all the air out of the system.

Check for leaks as well, I had to replace my steering rack due to not the wear on the metal pipes due to the engine sitting on it but the damaged internal seals.

When toppign up the coolant squeeze the hoses, this will again purge air to the header tank. Theres also a bleed screw on the radiator in the top right corner (looking from the front of the car to the back).

Hmm, my windscreen wiper motor stops on the middle of the windscreen when i put the lever to stop position, aint it supposed to finish the "round" and go to home position?
I noticed a motor for sale on ebay, it had relays with it. Are specific relays besides the fuses for the motor?

cap on or off, but with the cap on you don't have the risk of the fluid spouting out if a large air bubble surfaces.

Its meant to park in the down position. The relay is in the fusebox, turn them on and you can hear the relay click so you know which one it is.

The motor has a park switch in it so it knows when to stop in the right position.

I found out which relay is giving me a click. Its a blue one with Valeo written all over it. When i take it out and try to use the wipers, they dont start on the first level at all, but start normally on two and three. But still, they stop on the middle of the windshield :S
Any ideas?

can someone have messed with the position of the wipers while changing them ? may be you should take the wipers out (1nut holding each wiper) and have a look at the threads ,if they are ferked or not ??
