right, first of all, he was overtaking then it cut out as if it had run out of fuel, i did the hg as the compression was down in 2+3, now compression fine, to start it, you have to d/c the ICV and air intake temp sensor, then when running plug the ICV back in and it will idle, then if you plug the ait back in then it cuts out, when trying to accelarate with it off, it just sounds like its being starved of fuel, throttle open 50% and the revs die off, max it will rev to before doing this is 2500-3000, ive put in a newish ait sensor, but no difference made.
let me know what you think.

danlp6, Very Happy This is EXACTLY the same problem my 19 has had a few times in the past! (knowing that is not a 19 maybe still helpfull) The problem with my car was in the connector of the TPS. Just disconnect it and give it a real good spray of contact spray (or wd40) put the connector back and your fine. I think i have to put a new connector on sometime cus the problem keeps coming back every half year (when your in the middle of nowhere on the roads) and i have to spray the connector again. Cool

I think (not knowing that much) the ECU won't get or get a wrong reading from the TPS and there for won't give fuel hence the empty fuel tank feeling. Most funny (or not) was the first time i had the problem my fuel tank was completely empty besides 3 drops of fuel or so. So i thought that was my problem Shocked

Good luck

righty this really could be a load of things as the systems notoriously crappy.

the fact its starting with the ait and ICV unpluged leads to a fueling problem.

Unplug the CTS and see if it will start with the other sensors plugged in. You may need the throttle.

If the car floods btw throttle fully open initiates flooded engine clear, which basically gets rid of all the fuel in there but stops the injectors firing.

I'd look here before the ECU as they have a habit of dying due to dodgy engine earthing.

i am assuming the maf is the black box at the back of the bay with a vacuum hose and a 3pin plug going into it, if i unplug gthis, and plug in the ICV, and ait, it will not start, unplug the ICV and ait, it will start, plug in the ICV it will idle, if i pick up trhe revs and plug in the ait it will rev to 4500-5000 and 75% throttle before dying off.

unplug the MAF only and see if it will start

unplugging the maf will make it look at the TPS for its main input instead.

its fucked then innit.

like I said it could be absolutely anything.

Theres no point in me or anyone else runnign off a long list of things when you can just as easily check it all yourself or just get someone in to look at it.

Right, it now starts with the maf sensor unplugged and the ICV and ait also. it will idle with the maf sensor unplugged. I personally rekon its the ECU now. Someone suggested the ECU had gone into limp mode?also another thing, his ECU is the 1AFA, will any other ECU plug in and work?i.e BLIP?
Cheers
