hey there ive had this j plate 19 for 3days and all of a sudden its making a rattle noise near the bulk head on the drivers side, theres no loss of oerformance what so ever, now a few ppl reckon its the bottom ends going, but then some people reckon the cambelt tensioner pully is fucked and the belt is hitting the cover.
the rattle started all of a sudden when the car died on me last nite, wehn u lisen to it at idle theres no noise but when you rev it u hear a rattle james thought it was def coming from the bottom but i thought it was also coming from the cam cover
has anyone any ideas as im going chicster on friday hoping the car wont fuck up on me touch wood it hasnt yet |

btw i checked the plugs and they are burnt to bits could that be a problem causing it?
bin looking on the old renault sports club and alot of ppl have had the same sort of prob from the same area and its to with the tensioners as they are plastic they tend to sieze over time so im wondering wether to change the camebeli n pullys or would i be wasting time and money |

the tensioners arent plastic, its not a poxy ford!
it does seem likely that the bearing in one of the tensioners is duff. All you can do to really be sure its that is de tension the cambelt and have a feel of the tensioner and idler pulley. See if they feel stiff/rough. |

Easy way to tell if they are seized is to take the came belt cover off, start the engine and have a look...you'll soon see if somthings amiss.
I can tell you though from experience the heatshield next to the downpipe does rattle at various rpms' |

if youve got a cambelt kit, you can do it in an hour, easily.
Its an expensive thing to buy if that's not actually your problem though, so you want to check the tensioner and idler first before forking out. |

right the rattle will be th eheatshield as they rattle all the time. the time honoured big jubilee clip round it is an acceptable fix.
Change the belt and tensioners as they may not have been done yet. The tensioners should really be changed every belt change but I normally do them every 2nd belt change. |

if the tensioner is knackered or a heatshield is loose, that isnt a bad thing...those are common little wear and tear items, u cant expect any more... |

if you was having clutch problems, you still would have to have the engine and box out to replace it.
Take the advice given to you here and in your other thread.
check the items you have been told to check.
you could have this car sorted for about £100 (cambelt kit and CTS) and a little work. |
