i have a loud thud noise over bad potholes i think ive traced it to spare wheel carrier i wedged a piece of plastic under spare and on rail of carrier.theres a lot of movement on catch it dosent unscrew as it should cause of the rust anybody else had this problem just a thought?

its quite common. If you just work the screw up and down a few times usign plenty of wd-40 it will clear the rust off.

Another related problem that I had for mines mot in November was one of the brackets had to be welded (it broke!) and the other isn't far off either!

thanks for ur replies it is currently not hooked on both sides as its misaligned i will have a play about. ive got to test if this banging noise has gone yet with the fix ive done as ive not travelled far .but my mates p2 has upward play and his dosent bang.ill see how i go ta

theres plastic clip things that clip onto the bottom of the car and press against the wheel to stop it banging off the boot floor.

Lindsey why did you get them welded? They are bolt in and about a fiver from renault! In fact I have a few here you could have had!

At that time I wasn't really doing much with the car it went into a local garage for it's MOT at which point the spare wheel was in the boot! He just did it. I might replace both of them tho cos the other one looks like it's terminal!!! That would be great if I could get a couple off you Chris, we could meet up next time I'm down the road Smile
