Ok, had this oil leak for a while. Had a gasket replaced but its still doing it.
Car is a 19 valver
Pic of leak:
It seems to be coming more from this bit
$64,000 question is, how can I stop this?
Thankyou please
(also posted on rsc forums but posted here as I feel a more educated response will be given ) |

To be totlaly honest I wouldnt know the difference in smell.
But always assumed it was engine oil as the level seems to go down for no reason (not by much however).
But to add another twist to this, the rocker gasket was changed at the weekend. So the lost oil could have been due to the engine pissing it into the plug wells and that leak is something totally different.
Is funny, I'm marking my terratory in works carpark at quite a rate now, must have covered at least 30 spaces by now... |

Either:
The shaft seal/bearing in the gearbox end needs replaced
Or
The seal/bearing on the engine end needs replaced
Or
Like mine, the bloody head (gasket) is leaking oil down into the clutch housing and it is flowing through to the bottom
Or
Something else
As others have stated, establishing whether or not it is gearbox oil would be a good start. |

Really?? What was beaky banned for? I got banned for reason I shall not state in public, but my 'Soneji' account there had several thousand posts. Few years ago that was however. Gordy was a good guy, shame he left. Is 2blu4u still on there? He was my arch enemy.... |

I dont know what mindyerbeak was banned for, and I did try to find out. It seemed at the time that the subject was taboo or something ffs. Losers.
I had a few run ins with 2Blue4U too... he was a bellend as well, agreed.
I dont go on there much anymore, just enjoy reading the speakers corner stuff really. |

If it is the head (You would know if it was) it is easy to whip the head off and stick in a new gasket.. |

Easy when the only tools you have access to are a 21 quid toolkit from woolies? (its lasted me 2 years and done numerous jobs with it, but not sure I'd want to use it for a job like that).
Well it's only a couple of drips a day really so wil keep an eye on it, need to get it up so I cna get underneath to get a good look at it.
Although not sure how much longer I'll have it, insurance was renewed todya and the missus is now on the policy, she hasnt driven for 6 years....oh shi.... |
