We've got to change the steering wheel on Leanne's 19 as the standard wheel boss isn't perfectly circular and makes a nasty sqeeking noise on the colum surround. I've been thinking about after market steering wheels and have seen some fairly nice ones but am curious about which boss to use.

I believe the R5 GTT standard wheel had a removable boss so would this fit the Ph2 19 column?

the 5 one doesn't fit and none are perfectly circular!

Also it shouldn't be close enough to squeak on anything!

This is another problem that's been inherited from the Megane conversion. Basically the Megane column is slightly longer than that of the 19 and the column shroud sticks out a little futher so the standard wheel won't fit on without a little modification. As the back of the airbag equiped wheel is elliptical it's impossible to modify the shroud to take the wheel without making it look proper goose so the only option is a perfectly circular aftermarket boss and wheel which will sit nicely in the cut out. Did any other Renaults use a two piece wheel?

clio/19/21 are the same

5/9/11 are the same but won;t go.

Simple answer is no.

Have you not kept the airbag then?

Does that mean you'll be selling the airbagged wheel? Wink

Yes the airbag has been retained but the good thing about the Megane Coupe that was the doner car is that the SRS is a unit which can be totaly removed from the car without effecting any other systems or triggering any fault lights...technically we have de-SRS'd it yet the pretensioners still function fine and the self test at startup seems to be functioning as it should. I think a Ph1 wheel is in order then as they were circular at the back unlike the elliptical air bagged ones.

Cheers

So the airbagless wheel from the 19/Clio 16v boss should be fine then? It's the circular boss that's key really...

I like the airbagged wheels, not so keen on the 16v ones.

well i guess i better see if huw is swapping his 16v one for your air-bagged one before i start pricing things up or there could be trouble since he mentioned it before me Laughing

i'll see how much postage is anyway for it for future reference. Wink
