Guys, was just wondering if any of you have declared any mods you have done on ur insurance? Induction kits, alloys, lowering etc? All I've got is an induction kit & exhaust, and I never bothered just declaring the induction kit cuz it seemed a bit pointless, but now I got an exhaust I'm thinking maybe I should tell 'em y'know? I mean how strict are they? Do I need to tell 'em I got a new gear knob too? lol Confused

Yes you need to tell them. It's not optional. If you don't tell them, then you are in effect driving about with no insurance, as your insurance will be invalid.

It's all very stupid. Some people have in the past rung up and given insurers stick saying stuff like "I just filled my car up with optimax, i thought i should let you know since the performance increase from that is more than the air filter i had to declare to you last week"

or

"I just took a shit, so the car is faster now because it's lighter"

Stuff like that.

You even have to declare brake upgrades. The insurers say that contrary to making the car safer be cause you can stop faster, "Ah, but that means you can get up to a higher speed on a given stretch of road before having to brake". What a complete load of utter shite.

tis a joke insurance really is.

Righty whats the lowest group car out there?

I knwo the basic ford ka is a grp 2 but a ka ain't cheap.

I need an old cheap heap that can sit in the garden insured so I can get no claims up so I can finally get my own cover instead of on someone elses or under an 'any driver' policy.

Trying to insure myself on a 19 16V is not possible, 12 grand 3rd party is one of the better quotes I got! lol Most won't insure me due to record.

hmm uno, cheap, shite, won't be seen dead in it fits all the criteria so far! lol

Like I said it will sit in the drive for a year, tell a lie, I will remove the identifying marks etc and get the thing crushed but say I still own it and insure 2 regs plates, chassis number and somethign else off it like a magic tree.

That way theres no chance of any claim being made! lol

Hmm........I'm with Directline and when I signed up for insurance I had to agree that the car was not modified in anyway and was UK spec etc, etc........and so if I ring 'em sayin I've modified it, are they gonna tell me to piss off? Or just put premium up? Anyone else with Directline? Ah well, I guess I'll find out when I ring 'em. Might go for the "Hi, I was THINKING of putting a stainless steel exhaust on my car and was wondering how much it would effect my premium?" and see what they say lol

see what they say, chances are no charge, maybe get an admin charge of 15 quid or somethign cos they will change the policy including the details. If they ask if it increases power tell the truth, which is NO!

when i was buying the clio, it was lowerd..but i had to get it home, and they coudent give me a quote..

so i phoned back and lied...said i brough another one instead, how ever this one isnt lowered..

"ok, thats fine" they go, drove it home

then rung up and said i was thinking of getting this one lowerd (alredy had been)

they said thats fine wont be at any extra charge, how ever i have to send pics in to prove that nothing else has been done to it.

not gotten round to that yet :-/

but then i have non standard alloys on it and i dont want to tell them about that, and thell show up in the pics..

unless i put the standard rsi alloys on it, and say that they come with clios standard...

that might work?

it will probably work, but whats the point if you're just going to put your other alloys straight back on? If you have an accident they will see they aren't the standard wheels and once again, your policy will be void anyway.

hes right...when do u need insurance? after a crash...not when its on ur drive....if it is a bad crash, chances are u wont get ur hands back on it before the insurers come to look at it...so u wont be able to swap wheels etc...

it is all luck...i havent told them about many things on mine, but they would have to take the engine apart to find them....but they may well do that if somethign serious happens....its a risk...but u just get raped for money...

at the end of the day a few mods may make it go a bit better...but its still over a ton of metal and will do the same amount of damage regardless of mods....

I used to be with Directline. I don't know if it's still in place but they had a policy where they will not insure cars with modifications unless the driver is 21 or over.

If you do a decat on the car, and then have an accident involving speed. For sure if the insurance expert sees it, more HP with the decat?

But decating a car is basically illegal, so it’s a risk you take.

In France if you want to legally change the performance of a car, you have to pass so-many tests that only a manufacturer could afford to do it.

It’s at your own risk, but unless you get really crazy the insurance should cover what ever you hit

Well that was stupid. Just phoned directline and told 'em I'd put an exhaust on me car and thought I'd better tell them incase it affected my insurance, and they basically told me to piss off! DOH. They can't insure drivers under 25 with any modifications to their cars. So I got a few days to find new insurers. Wooopie-frikkin-doo! So the question is.......do I try and find someone who will insure me with exhaust declared? Or just try and get 'normal' insurance again and risk it? Hmmmmm. Fuckery fuck, I couldn't find anyone anywhere NEAR as cheap as directline, and now they won't frikkin insure me Rolling Eyes
