i noticed yesterday the exhaust box before the back box(just under the left hand side rear passenger seat) is blowing from 2 places excessively on the 1.8 rt SPI . now what would this cause in terms of performance first of all ??

and secondly i know on some cars they just bypass this box and replace with a straight through pipe . would this be the cheapest and the smartest option ???

i do not have the welding equipment but that sounds like the best option ,i might as well get the cat removed while i go to the garage for that

been to a garage today enquiring about the mid box, its a ferkin fortune they ask for a mid box . its blowing from 2 different places and i would prefer to have it repaired or by passed rather than paying loads for a mid box .

the guy reckons it will be too noisy if the mid box is removed and will affect the emissions as well .

can i seal the holes with holts firegum stuff etc???

have you looked at GSF / Eurocarparts?
buy one, normally around £30-40 quid and fit it yourself. it's piss easy even when the cars only on axle stands even better if you can use a pit or lift.

Trashed my middle section going slowly through a gate on saturday.

cast iron gate stop thing caught in the box after the cat. hinged up and bent the exhaust up with it.

60 01 022 949 POT DE DETENTE 118.45 € without tax Sad pissed Sad

Anyway will give the old one to a mate who good at welding. then when I have time I will fit the thing as a strait pipe to see how much noise it makes.

R1916s - mine did the same thing, but bent the metal gear selector shroud so that it was impossible to change gears. I repaired the middle / rear join with a new clamp but since discovered another hole, patched that then another....etc. etc. just about every joint was f**ked!

No new one from Renault (France)

Maybe they find one on Friday ? Dialogys.

It's going from Retro to classic.

May be better in the UK as 1916V didn't sell well in France (Clio)

Fixed it for the moment I hope.

Seems that the exhaust was pushed back on the manifold joint where the 4 goes into 2 and got stuck.

Removed the mid section, waggled the 2 to 1 to cat pipe around a bit, every thing in the right place.

Still have a big dent in the box behind the cat but it’s not blowing.

Need to drive the car to see if everything stays in place.

Think it’s the original 1992 exhaust.

I was looking at the Devil back box from behind, it was sitting 5 or 6 Cm further back than usual.

Will get the new mid section from Renault if it turns up.

The box off to the side has a small hole drilled in it. It lets any water inside get out. Don’t know if this is standard but it works as a small stream of water comes out on starting.

the side box and backbow have small holes drilled in them to let water out, normally they get blocked though
