(sorry for any crap in my last post Cool )

Anyway, I have a 1.6 16v Megane - which seems reasonably nippy, but the question is, are there any ways of making quicker...

1) Where's the best place to start?
2) Costs involved (not really an issue)?
3) Possible gains?

Cheers folks

Assuming you have to retain this rather lacklustre vehicle then,

1) Breathing as always, headwork, biggest bang per buck and its always there. Then there full rebuild to decent tolerances, turbo, TB's etc etc

2) depends

3) dependign on work and bits less than stoick power to 500bhp if engine life of a few hours is acceptable.

cheers, lol

1) Assumed there'd be stuff like headwork mentioned, got some ideas in mind - though being from kilmarnock (you'll know where that is, if some others dont), getting help might not be easy, but it's worth a thought.

Yep the car is a bit drab as you say - full of rattles and squeaks, and its not particularly old either! Pal of mine has a 1.8 16v R19 - not only much quicker, but also seems much more solid, done 120k trouble free miles in it.

At the time it seemed a good option, but the things are impossible to sell (as im finding), so i'll need to keep it and try to improve it.. great!

Cheers mate

the newer renaults have worse build quality than the older models. Shocking but thats the modern workforce!

The design elements of the car are not great, the exhaust is the main one that springs to mind. the mrs has the 1.6 8v megane and its exhaust is nothing but bloody hassle on the thing.

Is the car maintained properly? Simple maintenence can transform a tired feeling car.
