the shocks arrived today and i wanted to fit them asap. the bottom 18mm bolt was a bitch .took me an hour to get out and when it came out ,the treads on the bolt were slightly fucked. can i use this bolt again ??

Image

this is the old shock came of the drivers side ,had to hacksaw the top nut in the end
Image

now this is the new shock came with all the bits and bobs in the picture ,i have some idea about the order they go on but want to make double sure .so can anybody confirm this pls????
Image

-the metal washer thing goes on first
-than the black long plastic cover on top
-the rubber mount goes after
-and the circular metal plate on top
-and finally the nut

yeah ????????

looking at what you have there, the long plastic shroud thing goes on the shock first. Looks like its got a metal cap on it, so one of the rubber donuts goes on top of that, then through the arch, then the other donut, then the big washer (bent edge pointing upwards), then the little washer, then the nut.

i have done the job ,
putting the small metal washer on the shock and the black plastic cover

the rubber bit came apart into 2 pieces put one piece on top of the black plastic cover (under the arch )

and the other bit mates with it from the top

than the big metal washer and the nut . i did not know i was meant to tighten the top nut by getting the grip from that tiny metal end ,is that right ?

right here is what i have done ,
lined the shock into the arch through the hole but did not tighten, i had to use the jack to lift the bottom of the shock a few cm s to line up with the hole on the axe and tightened the bolt. than tightened the top ends .

here are shots from each side

do they look tight enough or shall i use some more almighty like?????

it took me 25 mins to do Marks whilst he waited, never even took the wheels off. Sometimes they are awkward though.

Did you check the length of the new ones against the old ones?

Oh right, is there a little step on the shaft for the washer to sit on at that point then?

where did you get the shocks from Schakal?
how do they feel? i need to do this soon but the top of the shock appears to be alot harder to get to on the cab because of the roof storage area.

35quid inc p&p from ebay mate, they are not difficult to fit but tiring i would say .all my body aches today laying on the floor for 4hours trying to undo them buggery bolts .
did not have a chance to drive the car yet though but it sure will make a complete difference as the old shocks were totally fucked

the old shocks were not functioning at all chris ,would this be making the car look lowered at the back???
now i have the new shocks ,are they gonna settle and lower the car down a tad????
