I seem to have a drunk 19. It's leanin to one side ie. the rear right is about an inch lower than the rear left. Am I right in thinkin i could have a problem with the torsion bar? Any other suggestions as to the cause?

Sounds like it, just take the right side on out and raise it up a bit.

of course make sure its not caused by a collapsed front opposite spring.

what abot the rear shock chris . remember my collapsed rear shocks were making the car look lowered 1-2 cms Rolling Eyes

well you said they were collapsed.

In my world, 'collapsed' means something very different to 'siezed'

now now, stop playing word games and admit that the ride height can drop depending on the condition of the rear shock . and in this case it is a possibilty

ok if you put a load of bricks in the boot, then leave it for 5 years so the shocks sieze solid, then empty the boot, yes the rear will be lower than it started out.

Otherwise, a shock that is free to extend and retract does not set the ride height.

I have this problem too, guy at ATS said it was the shocks but I am almost certain that he's talking out his rear end coz I've done the bouncy thing at the back of the car and it does exactly what it's meant to...as in down up back to centre.

not really ben, it can weaken after all its a bar of metal that gets twisted.

The tolerence for ride height is about 15mm per side.

Dampers do not affect the height unless seized like neal said.

All the dampers do is damp the movement of the springs/torsion bars

Course they are, they ain't in business to serve you, they're their to make as much money as possible.

That's why I'm frustrated that my hands-on skills with cars are so poor.....running a car for me in the big wide world is gonna end up being an costly affair for me since I have a decent knowledge of how engines work yet absolutely no skill at working on them.

Spark plug change is about my limit. Even an oil and filter change scares me!

You seem to be doing alright Shackal. Up til now I've only had to do really simple stuff, exhaust, radiator and brakes. As Chris said, I've broke my car while changing the head gasket coz now it won't start! We all have our own ways of learning, mine is doing stuff, break it then fix it.
