Hi.
Got a few concerns with my Clio.
First off, sometimes I'll get in the car after College, go to start and the engine will be turning over but not sparking. It sounds just like when the immobiliser is still on, but I've turned my Alarm off which has stopped the immobiliser (or so I assume). And anyways I always thought it was a flat battery so used to bump start it (did this about seven or eight timnes since I've owned it). And yesterday it happened and I phoned my dad who said that the battery isn't flat, try turning your alarm on and off, so I did, and it started. Then later on after being parked up for about three hours the same thing happened so this time I turned my alarm on and tried to start and it started.
Now I've tried a million times to actualy set the alarm off but it never has and now it seems it's causing my car not to start Any ideas why this may be?.
Secondly, I HAD to park my car on our driveway which is ultra steep and my handbrake is wank so I put the car in reverse and slowly let the car rest in gear, now ever since then my gears have felt a bit crunchy. They very rarely go smoothly into gear, but make no crunch sound, just resist going in a bit. Don't know if it's anything to worry about, never comes out of gear whilst moving but the gear stick does move a bit when in gear . I've never checked the gearbox oil level though, so I don't know if it's low or what
Thirdly, I keep getting crap Mpg. The car is only a 1.4e and I put £26 in, did normal driving (the odd bit of ragging) and got 220 miles from £26, which ok, that's for town and lane driving in a hilly area, but surely it should me more. Also even when the car is nice and warm and u reverse in a confined space you can smell petrol coming from the rear end.

But seriously, please help. I want to sell this car soon and last thing I want is it becoming unreliable or breaking.

220 mile from 43litre tank thats aprox 9 gallons thats about 25mpg I think as an average thats probably about right.
check your gearbox oil .
sounds very much to me like your imobiliser is not disarming could be a doggy connection in the loom or maybe even at the alarm look for corrosion, (you know green stuff around the connections), as it could be going HR (high resistance) hence it'll work sometimes but not others. |

first thing I always recommend is remove and bin the renault alarm. It causes so much grief.
The mpg works out around 31mpg, which is more than adequate for town work. |

right way I done it.
£26 @ roughly 75p per litre
you get whatever it was
then you work out gallons which there are 4.5 ish litres to a gallon
220 divided by the gallons which is 7 or somehting.
You get 31mpg |

Yeah it's 32Mpg. That's weird actualy as when i first got the car I worked it out and it was exactly that..32Mpg. Maybe psychological that I smell fuel so pressume it's overfueling and 'think' I'm getting a bad Mpg.
So can I just rip the Ren alarm out? What about the Immob etc?.
Any idea on the gears?.

check box oil like david said.
remove the alarm and sort out the wirign as needs be. Nomartlly its just a few bullet connectors you attach together.
How old is the car? immob varies with age you see |

Nope.
In the engine bay is the alarm itself (the speaker bit) and it has a key on it that you can turn to either on or off |

on subject, all 16v's had a immobileser key in the glovebox, well mine doesnt and doesnt have a hole for one that i can see!! |

well my K reg phase 2 hatchback has the glovebox one, its disconnected though because its a piece of shit. |

allright than my k reg ph2 rt has it in the glove box and the j reg 16v has it under the heater control panel .
but have not got the keys for either of them
how am i gonna insure the bloody 16v with no alarm/immobiliser?????? |

reno fitted alarm does not meet most insurance company specs anyway schacks
you will prolly find you will need a min requirement of a Cat 2 alarm or immob to get insurance on it.
both mine are cat 2 alarmed and immoblised with the standard reno alarms disabled (as they are shit) |
