Hello,
I need to pull out the driveshaft from the gearbox .
For this I need to separate the left driveshaft from the gearbox.
Do I need to take out also the driveaxle nut from the wheel bearing? I mean the 30mm nut that sticks the wheel end of the driveshaft to the brake disk (wheel bearing). What nuts do need to go out to have enough play to pull the driveshaft? If I take out the 2 nuts between the shock-absorber and the brake disk support will be enough? |

left being passenger side?
iirc you'd need to take off the 30mm nut u mentioned. take out the 2 bolts at the bottom of the strut unit, and the stub axle should just fall out of the way so to speak.
was a little while ago when i changed my driveshaft and im sure i will be corrected if i am wrong but i think thats how it was done
might want to take the brake caliper assembly off the disc also to prevent stress and strain on the brake lines |

just remove the 2 strut to hub nuts/bolts and the track rod end and the thing will pivot enough to get the shaft out....
may i ask what for? |

I have yet to see one that doesn't leak.
Of course there are leaks and there are leaks. It will cover the shaft with oil over time and on a long run it thins so it may weep slightly so you can see it.
But only if its pouring out you have a problem.
Its a daft design. |

mine on the Ph1 now leaks a lot!
not really touched the Ph1 since towing it home after popping the circlip again, put it outside the house and have left it.
Whilst i was doing some work on my Ph2 yesterday, looking at my cracked top mount on drivers side suspension strut, the struts looked different from the ones on my ph1 so i took the roadwheel off to get a better look at the ones on the Ph1 and when i did noticed a huge puddle of gearbox oil under the car.
so jacked up the front end of the ph1 and took a look underneath with a torch, bottom of diff was coated in oil, wiped it off and there is a 3 inch long crack in it, looks like when i popped the circlip it cracked the diff housing too!
so defo a new gearbox required for the ph1! i've been quoted £160 odd plus courier for a JB3 from infinicar and local renault breaker wanted £135. both with 3 months gurantee.
local renault breaker did not have any 1.4 gearboxes in, but i am just gonna move the ph1 into my garage when i pick up the keys and its gonna get a rebuild. |

there is a special washer ,pop rivet shaped, disc that goes between the rubber gater and the bearing that the gaiter rests on it seals the gearbox. it appears that most of them have knackered out. i was fortunatly able to find one from a scrappie and mine is bone dry and has a zip[ tie holding it!
with no leakage! |
