Just about to get my alloys recond and taking the opportunity to replace the 4 nearby bald tyres.
The handbook states the tyres should be 195/45/R16. The tyres currently fitted for the last 22,000 are 205/45/R16.
I know the tyres I want - Avon ZV3's - but I have a few options regarding sizes:
195/45/R16 - £45 a tyre standard size
205/45/R16 - £70 a tyre - whats on now but expensive
or...
215/40/R16 - £45 a tyre - wider still and a little but lower profile, looks better.
I know someone with the same car / alloys as me with 215/40 tyres so I know they fit but what are the problems of fitting wider tyres to a rim thats desigend for 195's? Theres going to be minimal speedo interference between 45 and 40 profile surly? |

the wide tyres can cause steering wobble, and if they catch a line, then they go straight into it like its on rails, enen more in lane 1 of motorways! |

I might just go down to 195/45's as thats what the wheels were designed to have and means the sidewalls will be straght - surly fitting wider tyres to a small rim will cause the sidewalls to go like this \__/ rather then |__| which can't be good. |

yep use the 195's should get a handling improvement. Wet handling should also be better. |
