So does anyone know how and when the word Valver came about to describe the 1.8 16V Clio's and 19's? It's something that I thought about when sat at a set of lights the other day.....

No, but somebody must of come up with the name first, and it must of gone down so well that it stuck and is just taken for granted as it is today.

I just wondered if anybody on here was a fan of them long enough to know when the word first came about and who/where used it first, that's all!

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=valver&r=f

^ Coined by "Casper" / Timmyboy from RSC to prove his point an a R19 vs Clio debate.

But the word "Valver" is really more of a informal way of saying 16v - remember when the R19 was around very few cars were 16v most were 8v - only the faster bigger engined main stream cars had 16v's so it was an affectionate term. It was a coined to describe R19 16vs / Astra GSI 16v's and ZX Volcane 16v - the first round of hot hatch's to have those kind of engines.

That was because you hadn't made another hilarious purchase decision. Wink

It probably just came around just as a Nickname as it rolls off the tongue easily, I called my car a Cordy long before I realised many people before me had done so too. Its just human nature.

Not all of my purchase decisions are bad.

Clio for £480 isn't bad.

170bhp engine for £150 isn't bad either.

You should know that for yourself by looking at what people will pay for Clio 16v's and 150bhp Williams engines.....

You could have done a great deal better for not very much more Clio-wise and I think you let us all down by opting for a Clio over a 19 which would have been cheaper Wink

Not really. Clio will make back the money on insurance by being 3 groups lower than the 19.

Buying car is a one off cost, but you will always need insurance.

Believe me I would have liked a 19 but there was never one in the right condition at the right price and at the right time.

This Clio just came up at the right time and I was able to get it a lot cheaper than what you'd pay typically for a Clio. Even now you don't get 'em for under a grand usually! And for the price I paid I got one with virtually FRSH, lower mileage than most 19 16v's and a few nice aftermarket bits on it.

Fair enough, it needs a bit of work but it's still a bargain IMO.

clios are too small. i dont feel like i am fitting in it...cant spread out and relax like, mentally. too cramped.

but thats me, i like the 19, wouldnt go any smaller, unless it was like a cateram thingy or something

The funny thing is, sitting in the Clio I felt further away from the wheels, that's with the seats as far back as poss as well!

19 I feel really pressed up against the wheel. Not to the point that it's uncomfortable or dangerous tho' obviously!

Just me tho'!

Simple equation... 19=Mans Car: Clio = Girls Car. Now...If we look at this equation logically Gentle Ben must in 'theory' be a girl....
