Was finishing off the car last night at 2am knowing i had work at 8am this morning Twisted Evil

Anyway haynes recommends the rocker bolts be torqued up to 20nm but this cause the bolt to snap! needless to say i was too tired to remove it and went to bed. The bolts are the newer revised torx head bolts in anodised finish.

Anyway what should i be torquing the bolts up to? obviously 20 is too much...

Thanks for help

never had a problem going to 20. I think your torque wrench might be dodgy.

Which ones broke? the black hollow ones?

No they are torx50 bolts that are like a brass finish. I replaced them a year or so ago when i did the rocker gasket the first time. Never used a torque wrench though.

The wrench i hope is fine because he tightened the head using it which was 20nm and it was fine.

One possibility thought, the coolant had sprayed around the bay and had pissed onto the bolts. Any chance the antifreeze could have weakened them?

Gonna get some more from Renault today..

the coolant shouldn't have affected them. Its unusual that the soilid bolts would break!

I assume he tightened it to the base figure of 20 nm then angle tightened it?

Yeah 20nm base then 97 degrees angle in the correct sequence.

It is strange the bolts snapped. Might ask renault what they torque them to...
