Do you mean gear ratios?
Are the ratios different between the phase1 and phase2 19 16valve? |

yes they are, well they are supposed to be but I doubt it really.
the ph2's have shorter gearing, this is to allow them to gain back some acceleration to match the ph1's but they don't manage it. |

That's the kind of information I want to be able to understand! I'm sure it's not difficult so will somone explain it?
Oh and Denis, I think your English is excellent. I could show you a couple of other Renault sites where the English people speak worse English than you |

well imagine a ratio of 1:2....first gear spinning at 1 rpm will turn the following gear at 2 rpm...
so in 1st gear 11rpm will equal 34 rpm out.....
(it may be vice versa - cannot be sure)
(in fact i may be totally wrong...await for someone to confirm) |

vice versa!
1st gear:34:11 (or 3.09:1)...........34 revolutions from the engine gives 11 revs at the final drive. this is gearing down, hence multiplying the engine torque to give a higher torque at the wheels......thats all a g/box is--a torque multiplier |

Sorry to bring this up again but I just wondered:
What effect would fitting a phase2 19 16v box to a phase1 19 16v have?
Ok maybe in reality not much, but in theory? |

In theory you'd lose the homosexual tendencies that affect ph1 owners, you'd probably bulk up a bit, you'd find yourself not wanting to wear string vests and hard hats, you'd find yourself looking at the girl in pornos...etc etc

Ha ha. And I was worried that changing gear with a phase 2 box would make my wrist go limp |
