Right, while I'm on the subject of finding strange things in magazines.....I've just noticed this. Got a magazine from January 1991 which has a test featuring the VW Golf GTI 16v, Rover 216 GTI Twin Cam, and also the Renault 19 16v. Two pics that I thought were slightly strange......
Where's the bonnet vent?!!?
And where's the heatshield too!?! |

Surely putting the vent in would've made it even lighter again though.....because it's a hole |

Its just a guess, but it could be a early production model that basically got thrown out the factory to be used as the press car and has little bits and bobs missing from it,
iv got early stuff and the car has not got its bonnet vent either,
iv got an early XR3 article and it can be seen that the rear lights clearly dont fit properly lol |

Bonjour, that is a french valver, the 16S, a lot of the phase1 16s's did not have the bonnet vent, in fact i think they only put the vent onto the ph2's but not 100% sure on that.

oh I seeeee. Yeah there's a side on pic of it in that article too, and it's got a 16v logo where the side repeaters should be. I seem to remember a conversation about that in another post at some point |

Yeah, I think side repeaters are a UK requirement and therefore the cars on the continent got 16v badges where the repeaters would be |

pre cat euro 19 has 140bhp 7200rpm limiter and no vent.
The later ones had the cat and 137bhp and 7krpm limiter. Although my pre cat black 19 had a 7krpm limiter, but the co was adjustable. |
