Hi.

I'm getting a bit worried about my car as it's sounding like crap. It's always been lumpy which I was told is a compression ring, but when it idles it sounds like a tractor and seems to be slightly irregular Crying or Very sad

I've taken a coupel of videos with my phone and was hoping any of you could shed some light on why it may sound so bad.

Both .3gp format.

Hope you can help.

Cheers.

It's just hard to tell from those clips. Like the video from the outside, I didn't see much wrong until you held ur phone right up to the exhaust & then it sounded funny. So like I can't tell if the noise changed just cuz of where you were holding the phone, or if that was the car randomly changing. But then when you go in the engine.......that sounds bad. But does it actually sound that bad or is that just how ur phone picks up the sound of the engine? Like it's hard to know what we're listening for. MY engine sounds about 18 times rougher on my phone than it does in real life. I was gonna put a post up about my tappets, but it just sounds like there's someone firing a machine gun at me lol. Mine idles roughly sometimes. Like V8 style....chug chug chug chug and the whole car shakes like y'know. Only sometimes though, and I have no idea why Confused

Yeah tbh the phone does make it sound worse, probably about 3x as loud lol. But still, surely it shouldn't be maing those sounds.

valve clearances could do with a good sorting too!

ratter ratter.

is it common for the energy engines to get the dodgy clearances quickly?

almost every one ive seen has em..

unless its just were they have NEVER been done.

If I were to hazard a guess I'd say you're timing is out slightly, although I'm most likely wrong!

The fact it sounds like a diesel is becuase its recorded on the phone. my 16v is perfectly quiet, yet rattles like fek when recorded.

start with the tappets, to get rid of the knock/tap.

The exhaust splutter is normal.

Ok cheers lads.

Looks like an oil change, tappets, valve clearences and timing all need doing.

Yeah.

Well no, not going to drop any names but someone from these very forums said you adjust it by adjusting the dizzy cap or something along those lines.

Don't laugh at me, laugh at them lol Embarassed Laughing
