A man goes into a shoe shop to buy a twelve pound pair of shoes and hands the cashier a twenty-pound note. The cashier doesnt have any change, so goes next door to the restaurant and changes it for twenty one-pound coins. He then gives the customer his change.

Later, the restaurant owner comes into the shop and says "this twenty is counterfeit". The shop cashier apologises, takes the counterfeit twenty back and gives the restaurant owner two tens.

Excluding the cost of the shoes, how much money is the shop down?

First person with the correct answer gets a second hand spark plug....

£32 because they've no longer got the £12 shoes and they've given the shop next door £20!

£28, because £8 to the guy who brought the shoes, and £20 to the restaurant.
