I'm thinkin of getting an engine conversion, just a 1.4 instead of my standard 1.2, but any of you guys know if i can add anythin to make it go a bit quicker without getting a conversion?, I've already got a K&N Air Filter on it but i want speed!

anyone help?

cheers, ant

not really, you could go get headwork, fit TB's etc but at the end of the day its an economy engine and not made for outright power.

Swapping to a 1.4 is easy enough and your baseline power is 20bhp more than the 1.2's.

the list of what NOT to do to your 1.2 is much bigger than what you could do Wink

Would a megane phase 1, 1.6 8v mpfi fit? Its exhaust manifold is same as meg 1.4 I think.. probably wrong. Is there a possibility of it mating to a clio 1.2 downpipe. Before you say it, I already know i'm an idiot too much daytime Nigela watching is warping my mind.

yes the megane lump will fit.

main problem is fueling it.

It will also mate up with a 1.4 system, dunno about the 1.2's though.

Nigella is good clean big boobed fun! hmm boobies

Is it a case of the pump not providing enough pressure?
Also I bet Nigella also has a wicked side. Smile

well thats 1 issue, the pump is bigger on the 1.6.

But the megane is Semi sequential EFI, the 1.4 and 1.4's in the old shape clios are all SPI's.

So you have loom issue and more to the point the megane immobiliser to get round in order for the stock engine and fuelign to work.

Other wise you have to go to aftermarket injection.

Knew that the P and R reg type clio's had mpfi on some 1.2's and that they did a 1.4S running mpfi of around same time. Forgive me my Renault knowledge is a bit well, shite! See your point, with immobiliser especially. He should go and buy a bigger engined car, for much less money than modding.

why not chris ? i think 1.6 is a good choice of engine that would give a bit of performance with the economy . lot of other car manufacturers used that

you think? Laughing

The 1.6 is ok, but it doesn't like to rev, its not quick, its not happy abpove 4krpm.

it is good on fuel right enough, mainly thanks to decent mapping.

i used to drive a 1998 escort 1.6 16v and was rather happy with the performance and the fuel consumption to be honest but than thinking about it i would not go anywhere below a 1.8l ever.

who's talking about new shape hondas? The B16 engine is found in early 90s CRXs and Civics etc.

I had the 1.8 16V orion and thought it was crap slow, it was good on petrol though.

tbh if I could i would have anything less than a 4/5 litre tbh, if you haven't tried to stall a 7 litre v8 you haven't lived. the fact the wheels chirp and it keeps running is good.

Nothing like a big lazy auto V8 either. Ahh heaven. Who cars if its only 50bhp per litre, so its not efficient but quantity is better than quality in these cases.

Ahh V8, auto, air con, armchairs, mini fridge and the creme da la creme 8 track radio. What more could you want! Maybe more than 10mpg but thats not the point!
