My elder brothers Triumph Dolomite was carted away last week, to parts unknown. It was being stored round the corner in the local garage/scrapyard. Alas the owner, Brian (who does my MOT) wanted it shifting and my bro, being the lazy shaggy bollocks that he is, forgot about it and never got it into storage. To be fair tho' he does live and work up in Settle, Yorkshire, so it's not like he's here to do owt about it!
A shame really as it had loads of nice bits and bobs on it - 1850 engine conversion running twin carbs with stainless K&N filters (which I was thinking of half-inching off of it) and a straight through exhaust. Sounded beefy as owt I've ever heard! It was in pretty good nick really and all the cooling system components and other ancilliaries were brand new, but it was in need of a new 'box which was all that was stopping it from being finished.
Anyway, I hope it ends up being sold or repaired/restored, it's far too good to break. It was a great little car that I had a drive of not long before it was taken off the road. Farewell little Dolomite! |

Aye. Don't think he knows it's gone to be honest. Suppose I'd better tell him at some point! |

No idea mate! Thing was, it was parked in the yard out the front and I could see it clearly as I drove by on the way home.
Then one day last week I drove by and it weren't there any more! |

Well this story has a happy ending!
Believe it or not, about half an hour after coming off the net we get a phone call off my bro, he normally only rings up every couple of months or so!
Anyway, after 45 mins discussion about women, life and the future I decide to take a deep breath and tell him that his Dolomite has gone.
Me: "Matt......the Triumph's gone."
Matt: "Yeah I know."
Me: "How do you know?"
Matt: "It was me that had it towed away!"
Anyway, turns out he arranged for the car to be delivered to him up in Yorkshire, and decided not to tell anyone! I'd obviously got me wires crossed and with my Dad saying Brian wanted rid of it off his yard and my bro doing a lot of charity work I put 2 and 2 together and assumed my bro wouldn't/couldn't pay for it to be towed up to him!
Well anyway it's still alive and kicking (relatively!)
He's managed to lob a new 'box on it and it needs a new clutch. He's having a prob with the carbs tho'. But I'll post in the tech forum to see if our resident master of mechanical wonders can shed some light on it! |

It's overfuelling when ever it's not idling, the bowl of the front carburettor fills up. The carbs are balanced as well.
More detailed description in the tech section. |
