It has suddenly become very difficult to engage first gear on my 19 valver.
You have to select 2nd then into 1st which is a royal pain in the arse when you are trying to pull away quickly.
Only thing worth mentioning is that on the return spring on the gear selector (under the car) the plastic bracket has snapped off, so at the moment there is no return spring fitted.
I wouldn't have thought that would have made much difference though?
Any ideas? |

try putting the box into neutral first, take foot off clutch, then engage 1st gear from there. means the synchro on number one is a bit worse for wear

Ok that does work.
It also crunches when you engage reverse (it has always done this) If you put it into 1st then reverse it doesn't crunch, but I didn't think there was a synchro on reverse so what is that?
In order to properly fix these problems I presume I am looking at a box rebuild? |

there is no synchro on reverse. The box internals are still spinning when you try and engage reverse straight away. selecting another gear stops them. |
